    Beautiful photo.

    was driving the country lanes of the New Forest yesterday, near the home of @scrooge95

    some of the colours were amazing.

    there was also the small matter of the mclaren car showroom that I just had to stop and look in! :)

    To me, that wire looks like it was trapped against something which was sharp and hot enough to push through the insulation and short it. Not a fault in the part, but a fault in installation..

    You may need to source a new set of alternator rectifier diodes - if you short the dash warning light to ground with the alternator running it will try to put 50 amps through three little diodes who only ever wanted to light a tiny light bulb and power the regulator. Or you could get a set of three diodes and solder one to each phase of the stator winding and use the combined connection of all the cathodes (stripe end) and take that off to the alternator warning light connection.
    The old diodes have probably blown up totally. There may be some bits and some wires pointing at each other..

    Did this a few months back connecting a leisure battery across a starter battery on my boat. Forgot the handedness of the terminals of leisure batteries can be opposite to starter batteries. Smoky alternator cost £25 for an eBay rectifier pack for a Hitachi on a Yanmar diesel..
