  2. do twin carbs really help with getting up hills? really ............... ?

  6. You have to be careful with twin carbs for several reasons. Shortening the inlet tract moves the torque curve up the rev range, so less low down and more higher up. Increasing the overal bore of the inlet tract (as you do with 1 choke per cylinder) slows down the air flow speed, which again works better at high revs as it will flow more air, but reduces torque at low revs, since the cyinder filling pulses become less effective. Finally, if you over choke the carbs and reduce the air speed too much, the venturi effect in the carbs is poor and the throttle response will suffer. You can see that most of the benefits occur at high revs, and since our engines work at lower revs, the benefits are limited. It's not called tuning for nothing - like a musical instrument, the length and diameter of the inlet and exhaust have to be right, not just bigger.

  9. After all these mods, and the Turbo Thomas exhaust, wouldn't you also need to fit the Dudley Turbo...

To flush away any unwanted discharge?

  10. What, I don't get so much as a giggle for photoshopping an old bus passing the world's fastest Indian and breaking the sound barrier?
Damn. I thought that was a good one.
You Brits are a tough crowd sometimes. ::)

  14. Well drop me a line when you're wanting the 78.4mm crank, and I'll point you in the right direction or get one for you, as one with type 1 rod journals is best (biggger diameter than type 4 or chevy)

Also means you can run H beam rods too ;)

oh, did you go with the 1inch base circle cam? not too sure if a standard cam will clear the stroker crank

  15. a bit like this on my mate gary yeo type 1 2387

  16. exactly that :D

  17. I have just had my type 4 2L engine rebuilt. Only had minor mods:

Weber ict 34 twin carbs (which were on prior to rebuild)
2056cc barrels and pistons (bolted straight on so didnt have to worry about any extra machining)
Scat cam (for better motorway cruising)
Vintage speed exhaust (lovely bit of kit)
    Pertronix coil and ignition bits.

Even without the carbs being set up very well, the difference is amazing. I have not been on a motorway yet, but acceleration through all the gears is so much more than I was ever expecting, and I thought it was running well before the rebuild (well, until it broke that is!). Driving it is such a pleasure.

I had a local motor engineer in High Wycombe do the rebuild for me. I just supplied all the bits.

Hope this helps, sorry its not very technical. Am hopefully getting to a rolling road soon so will hopefully be able to give more technical stuff then.
