  1. Shouldn't there be a separate prefix for High Performance threads?
    Moving on,...
I'm starting this in hopes of getting people to share there performance success stories with the rest of TLB's velocity challenged.
So please, tell us anything. Improved horsepower, handling, or even fuel economy. How did you do it?
Let's hear everything from high performance spark plugs and air filters (did they really make a difference?) to replacing your engine with a used Subaru 2 litre twin turbo. (dare to dream)
Don't hold out on us. Come on. Put your tricks on the table. 8)

  2. bump.... great idea for a thread

  3. My van has a standard 2.0 Subaru motor out of a Forester which gives about 125bhp which is more than enough to pull the trailer up and down dale. It is also quite good on petrol returning 35 without the trailer and just under 30 with.

Every Bay should have one ;D 8)

  4. I want to turn my van into a track weapon once I buy another bus for family trips . I hope this thread fills up with top tips

  5. id love a tdi in my bay ,but the mrs loves the engine sound n so do i

  6. ^ the engine sound is what got me into Aircooled in the 1st place . Gotta be air for me

  7. same here ,to me the sound is like heaven on earth but the mpg is like hell on my pocket

I fitted twin CP solex carbs. The performance improvements were massive over the unreliable workings of the FI system.

Sent from my iLife 4 suite of applications.

  10. I had a new mexican 1600 with stock carb and aircleaner in me.
Standard setup I fond myself dropping down gears to go up hills if I lost momentum, even on motorways.
I just needeed a little more torque and the current setup was as good as good as stock gets.

Did a bit of research and fitted a Turbo Thomas exhaust to help it breath a bit and got 'Pete Nice' (is he back on here?) to install and setup a pair of Weber IDF's.

Pete set them up beautifully and it's like driving a diferent bus! Cruises easily 65-70 (had it up to 85 down a long hill but that was bad of me ;-) Climbs hills well and is much more relaxed to drive. I probably get about 2-3 mpg more on a run. Not much diference in town (probably because I like blipping the throttle ;-).

If i was to do one other thing I'd probably upgrade the camshaft. Anymore than that I think and I'd be heading for serious scarry money.

    Twin carbs definitely worth while.

    Cheers
