  1. heat exchangers repaired and the engine is almost in. I have the Empi econopack exhaust which sits too close to the fresh air hose for the heat exchanger. they are actually touching. Would these cardboard hoses last like that or burn up from the exhaust pipe heat? heater tube.jpg

  2. They will eventually burn through as do the aluminium ones
Silicone hose may last longer but I’ve not tried it

  3. I think then I might be better off cutting a new hole out in the tinware further over and closing up that one.

  4. Or better to fabricate some steel pipe from the hx up to the tinware hole, if you think about the VW exhaust all the airflow ducting from tinware down is metal pipework.

  5. hmm, that's a good idea :)

  6. Well I went for cutting out a new hole and it went well I think.

  8. I have a brand new fuel line kit with hose and metal pipe. Would anyone have a good picture or diagram of how it should be plummed on a late bay? I can't seem to find anything on the interwebs.
It's a single carb 1600. Not sure what to do with the metal piece. I know it goes through the hole in the tinware but do I run it all the way to the fuel pump or do I keep it closer to the tank?

  9. The Ratwell website says to do this with the metal pipe part but I'm not sure how that sits into a late bay.

  10. Does this look ok or have I made any glaring mistakes?

  11. Looks like everything is where it should be, I wouldn’t use the braided hose though cos you can’t see when it’s perished. I think mine has a longer piece of hose at the fuel pump end but I think that was just to keep more of the metal pipe protected, doesn’t really matter.

  12. There has been lots of posts on the forum about not using old style braided fuel hose. I suggest you take the above advice and replace your braided with the modern hose. use the modern to replace your old braided breather hoses as well while you are at it.

  13. Just had a look at the website and it looks fine, keep us up to date on how it lasts, it nice to see we are now getting some choice for these bits:)

  16. So long as the hose is what the website claims, it has little resemblance to the cack from the likes of halfrauds so this looks like something new and should be fine. Time will tell

  17. I cut a small bit and split it down the middle. I don't see any evidence of it being steel reinforced!
