Rear brake... So not much of a loss..

  3. @art b

You been tinkering with your breaks again;)

  4. That looks familiar, I've had to replace both calipers on ours and slider pins are always sticking. At least the bits are cheap enough and easy fitted.

Check the carrier, that’s what allows the Caliper to slide, the sliders seize up, rarely the caliper

I think those look the same as the later T4, In which case I have a pair here. Do you have the part number Art?

  9. ^this, if they’re one pot floating calipers. The slider gets full of muck and seizes up.

  13. Looks ok from here
Is most likely the sliders sticking.

  16. Not sure if yours are the same but alloy bodies on mine and they readily corrode on the pad side of the piston seal, pistons in mine were well and truly seized at something like 120k. New oem calipers were something like £50-60 each from brakeparts, same calipers fitted to loads of stuff in vag group so common.

  17. You can see corrosion on the outside of the piston seal in the caliper body, that's usually what causes calipers to stick if the pins are ok.

Were the pistons easy to turn?

  18. Parts of the piston face that touch the pads have cracked off so I’ll be replacing them.

  19. The only corrosion I can see is on the outside part of the piston and where the dust seal sits
All brakes corrode here and it’s fine

In my experience it’s when the dust seal splits and water/muck gets in between the piston and bore causing corrosion that makes them stick.

  20. I should have said corrosion in the body - pistons are plated or stainless and as you say always corrode outside the seal
