  1. I mean what could possibly go wrong off work for a month or more 2 heated Audi TT seats and a 1934 singer sewing machine and some fire proof material
Iv never done this before but Iv got a long time to learn and have a go Iv not worse case I can pay some one to do it so nothing to loose really and will keep me busy

Iv stripped the seats and had a little pratice on the machine and got it set up now I think and watched a lot of videos
Here's a bit of last few days I've chosen cream and grey tartan down middle kinda old golf style

For my 1st go I was quite happy with the headrest not even fitted the plastic tension clips on it not perfect but will have a few more goes till I get bit more confident on machine

  4. Lol no it was used to make out some material I got like 10m x1.5 m for £50 so a lot of material can do the whole bus twice and watched load on YouTube just about being confident really

  5. You’re probably nearly as good as me Si so if I can do it I’m sure you’ll give it a good go [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

  6. They look smart did it sew through the plastic bits ok ?

  7. Yeh pretty basic domestic machine has coped with everything I’ve tried so far, to be honest I’ve not done any headrests yet they’ve all been the standard moulded plastic jobs on seats I’ve had a go at.
It’s mostly just working out which layer goes where much like unpicking rusty panels but often you’re working from the inside and back to front so you think it’s ok till you turn it the right way round, then you have another go

  11. It’s official title is scrim foam as it has a nylon scrim to ‘catch’ the thread & stop it pulling through the foam.... I think it comes in 3mm, 6mm, 10mm & 12mm (possibly 18mm also).

My headrest covers have no padding and endless zips across the bottoms .. not perfect but these were quite cheap commercial ones...

By endless I mean made from sections of zipper off a reel without an end, just a loose slider you fight onto the 50 mm long free end of the zip, run it to the other end then off the zip. Then tuck the ends of the completely zippered zip up beside the metal tubes.

  14. Should give s nice rounded ‘flute’... bear in mind you will need a smoothing coat lightly glued over the pads ... either a soft felt such as veltrim or needled wool just to smooth the edges of the seat pads.... it also adds to the comfort. Also worth adding a layer of something (thin carpet will do) directly between the bare seat springs & the new seat pad to stop it pushing through.... they will last longer that way.

  16. Also looking at the seats you are re-covering you will need to sew cotton tubes (I think they’re called lastings but can’t remember) into the covers to accommodate the metal rods that pull the cover into the creases. As in @SundialCamperSpecialists covers above (the white strips you see.
