    Best way to fit please.
I know about the string to the frame, but how do you get the seal on the glass in the first place.
All warm at the moment around 40c (boiler room) but still struggling to get the monkey on.
Any advice or tips most welcome.

  2. Its a bit of a cow, I put 2 canes on what would be the outside, about 18 inches in from the ends, so the shape of the window didnt try to pull the rubber off the glass. If that makes sense. Its a finger killer

  3. Can you not do the string trick, but on the inside?

  4. Probably not very helpful, but I didn't find it that hard! I had done all the other windows by then so maybe my fingers were broken in. Didn't bother warming the seal.
Try spraying some glass cleaner on the edge of the window to lubricate it and then wiggle the seal against the glass to open up the seal channel. Start at the corners and then go for the long edges, trying not to let the corners pop off.

Unfortunately I don't know any Indian rope charmers locally.;)

My mate down the pub suggests that I use hand cream to ease the glass in or the rubber on.
Shall be getting some atrixo or o'Keefe working hands cream tomorrow.

Thanks for your help and advice.
    Cheers

Red rubber grease doesn't eat the rubber and protects it too.

Is that the same grease as used for rebuilding brake calipers and pistons?

Yes. I bought a big tin of it and put a thin smear on all rubber components inside and out now.

Take your time Nick that’s how we broke our windscreen. My mate was rushing it and banging it on with a rubber mallet

Its hard work, my hands burned afterwards, skin stretched, muscles screaming.
Some lubricants may damage the rubber.
I had to pull the edges apart using a plant dibber(conical wooden tool) to open up the slot, just before I slipped the section on. Sort of run it round the seal just ahead of where you push it on. Being wooden its too soft to damage the glass.

  12. Some seem ok , some you struggle with apparently - mine went well but i was helped by a bloke who fitted broken plant windows on site ..... an`dem cranes is well igh bro !!

Top tips were to use thick-ish nylon cord and forget fancy lube - he swore by green Winowlene and it worked a treat

  13. I used a similar method but a used a slightly shortened mastic nozzle. Managed to break the bloody thing pushing in at the top and got it fitted on the insurance as it was actually an accident!

Sticking the seal in a bucket of warm water before fitting to the glass helps too.

Chap that did mine used a mastic tube with the 1/4” nylon rope running through to get it in the rubber. For lubricant he used Nil Glass glass cleaner. He was a window fitter in the car biz though. Made it look simples. I quite like that a few peeps have used two or three ratchet straps to pull it in gently while working the string from the inside of the van. This screen fitter also said to make sure the upper bit of the screen was going in slightly before the lower bit of the screen and it seemed to work well.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,, you can get it from B&Q :)

Make sure you put the rubber on the right way up ie seal at the bottom. It's a pain when you have to take if off and start again. I did and the body shop weren't amused.
