  2. I agree and extend it to snacking children too.

  3. How exactly are they going to police this?

I guess they will now have the power to take things further when the kids that are being mistreated surface at schools and the like. I can't imagine how you take up the case of a smack around the leg for playing up in the supermarket. I hate that when my Mrs does that to me btw!

  5. They would do that anyway, surely? I'm def not a smacking fan, but think a specific law makes no sense at all.

Not quite. They know something isn't right and just can't take it any further at times. Personally I have never seen the point in hitting kids and think the issue is with the person that hits, not the child. A ban is a start to re educating some that are in need of it imo!

Yes, I will arrange it for next Tuesday at 11am. Would you like me to video it happy slap style or just have your legs slapped and move on?

A skelp on the bum never did me any harm.

  12. I see other peoples kids everyday that could do with a smack or a good clout, and the same goes for their parents!

That quote from you was in the first draft of that post. I took it out as I didn't want to offend you!

Anyway, personally I don't recall being smacked as a kid, maybe mum did but dad never did, and with 6 kids, all boys, that must have been a tall order. We have all turned out fine. I think it was right that they outlawed the legalised abuse that was corporal punishment in schools. I don't recall any of the real toe rags at my school becoming lesser toe rags as a result of being beaten by teachers. But I'm not sure legislation re parental smacking is the way either. The law allows I think, for "reasonable chastisement" but what exactly is reasonable? Making a criminal of a frazzled parent in a supermarket who snaps and hits their child across the backside won't help. It seems to me you see less smacking of little ones anyway, so perhaps the culture is moving away from smacking in any case. There will always be lots of people who will say "it never did me any harm" and I don't doubt it but it does a lot of long lasting harm to other kids judging by the reaction from some I've heard.

  17. And that's why I have a dog.
They love it when you give them a good beating*.
They respect you for it and the government positively encourages you to do it.
Anyone frustrated by their inability to slap their children, even gently,
    Take my advice
    Buy a dog.

I agree. Snacking between meals is going to spoil their appetites or make them fat. Good to nip it in the bud.
