Scooby powered T25 build

Discussion in 'Modified Shizzle' started by whereuromnosecity, Aug 10, 2014.

  1. A few weeks back i purchased a T25 (i know i should be getting on with my viking resto)
So I've decided to but the bay on hold and get the T25 on the road with scooby power

Hence this build thread, which i reckon will be of some help to the few members currently doing the same conversions

    Some pics

what injun is the t25 currently on stu?

  3. The van came pretty much complete just minus the original water boxer DG engine

But the following things needed sorting apart from the scooby conversion bits
New brake caliper, pads, wheel cylinder and a couple of brake pipes - sorted out the pedal going to the floor
    New clutch slave cylinder
A selection of relays, and a couple of sensors for the rad and header tank level
A couple of tyres completed the list - still got 2 little welding jobs to complete before MOT time but will get the motor in first

  4. So whats need for the scooby conversion?

Well i had already bought and stripped an impreza in prep for putting in the bay (looks like i need another now;))
All thats need from the donor is the engine and wiring loom, but depending on who's conversion parts your going to use you need to keep the starter as well, i also kept the exhaust as it may come in handy

The conversion parts required are pretty much the same whoever's bits you use
    But mainly you need
Bell housing or adapter plate and relevant clutch parts
The loom modifying + vehicle speed sensor
The fuel tank modifying to accept the return for the injection system
    Electric fuel pump
Cooling system - rad, header tank, pipe work etc
    Engine suport bar
    induction pipework etc

With mine being a water cooled T25, i don't have the water cooling parts to sort out and the fuel tank already has the return fitted, but all the other parts are still needed

After reading the hundreds of threads around on the net i decided to go with the RJES bell housing and associated parts, if using the bell housing in a bay the gearbox mountings on the chassis will need to cut out, but on the T25 no chassis mods are needed
I'm also using RJES for all the other bits as well, water pipes, engine bar, loom modifying etc, but you could do all this yourself saving a fair bit of cash
All what i'll been making up from scratch will be the exhaust

  5. So some pics of progress so far

Loads of room to play with here, helps having the fuel tank up the front on a T25

Not done masses yet but do have a load of parts waiting to get fitted

Made a start on the box, here with the bell housing fitted and fitted a new bush to the clutch arm

  8. And made a start on the fuel pipes

need to step up from 8mm at fuel tank to 12mm at the electric fuel pump
Found this brass step up on ebay and order a few meters of R6 fuel pipe

  12. Great stuff :)

  13. Not much to report for this week
Still waiting on a few bits from RJES should all be ready in a couple of weeks

So over the last few nights got the fuel pump mounted, still can't decide where to mount the filter (either next to the pump on the chassis rail or in the engine bay[IMG])

I also had a play with my new hole cutters
Rust had taken hold around the fuel filler so the previous owner had cut out the rot and put a flat plate in with the thinking of fitting an alloy filler cap
So after picking up a filler cap i set about fitting it

64mm hole drilled in the wing and 6 holes for the bolts
    [IMG]

and with the filler cap, looks ok me thinks
    [IMG]

while i had the drill in my hand, another hole appeared on the rear bulkhead for the scooby loom

Next up for tomorrow is fitting new steering rack gaiters and track rod ends
