  2. All very helpful..
Does anyone know how i can tell for sure whether the change will defo affect the exemption...all sounds a bit subjective to me!
Can anyone find a technical person i can contact at dvla or whoever.

It definitely 100% doesn't affect tax exemption.
I don't think anyone, or nobody (see what I did there?) really knows about MOT yet.

  7. It will most certainly require MOT and depending what else is done to the bus it may or may not affect historic status. I would not expect Fellows to give you impartial advice (or anyone with scooby engine fitted for that matter) Read the regulations and decide yourself.

  8. Like i said, the regulations are not that detailed.

Mine has a scooby engine and is tax free. DVLA have been notified as have my insurer. This is the same for anyone on here who’s van is ‘77 or earlier and had a scooby fitted.

The MOT thing won’t be clear until it’s been tested, which can’t happen until it actually comes in. It doesn’t really make sense that an engine change affects exemption,as the engine isn’t really part of an MOT anyway, apart from emissions and leaks. From what I’ve read though it does seem you will lose MOT exemption.

Beware of trolls passing false information, just because they have a bizarre hatred of anyone doing anything to their buses that they disagree with.

  11. The regulations are quite clear - if your engine is non OE and have 15% more power then OE you need MOT if on top of that you have any modifications to the suspension, steering, body/chassis you will loose your 8 points and will loose your historic status. The scooby fanboys have spent thousands on the conversion and are clearly in denial of the consequences - it is pretty clear when you read some previous posts where someone will stick vw stickers to pass it on as original engine

Not true that was the draft perposals that have dropped the 15% and the 8 point stuff from the mot exemption

Still think it will still need a mot due to the engine through

    Wrong again.

  15. the BIVA and 8 points is (still) relevant to historic status not MOT

Why does it bother you so much?
What do you care that we’ve “spent thousands...”?
    Little green monster coming out?

Installing a scooby engine in no way stops you scoring the requisite 8 points. In fact, its the least relevant part of the vehicle being only worth 1 point.

  18. I said that already, unless other modifications have been made (or engine was badly installed and body / chassis was modified) those are the facts (if you agree or not) and they all relevant to OP question and he still not clear.

    Yeah, that's what I said....exactly what I said.

I'll also use invisible ink on the radiator and hoses, and angled mirrors to disguise the lack of a doghouse or fan.

Can you please not draw people attention to my expert deception, not least the MOT testers.

The OP is confused by you!!!

Right now the scooby buses maintain their historic status if old enough.
    They have to be MOT'd.

In the future, assume it will need to be MOT'd, and like 80% of historical users who stated they wanted to keep the MOT, you'll probably be happy.

You are the one confusing everyone by trying to draw a line between type approval for kit cars and old vans.

On the registration doc, it does not mention make of engine, leave alone steering rack etc....nor does it on the MOT.

So, unless MOT testers, that aren't qualified in what is actually OE or not decide inexplicably to report you for an inspection, or you are subject to a VOSA roadside test of some description somehow, there isn't an issue.

That totally ignores that these vans were manufactured new up until a few years ago and updated and modified as they went (as opposed to say an MG Midget).

The legislation past that for kit cars and actually pertaining to the MOT detail isn't 100% clear, as evidenced on many classic car forums.

    Why scaremonger?
