Its my best friend - we go everywhere together.........

  2. Do you actually get to ride it - or does it just sit in the back - Not ridden a scooter (Li 150) since 1966

  3. Yes I ride it - its a 50cc air-cooled that can be ridden on a full car license, without having to do those daft CBT courses or put L-plates on it.
Its virtually identical to a Lambretta GP but with the modern technology of an auto 4 stroke engine. It has been de-restricted so can do 40 mph all day.

The photo was taken waiting for the ferry back from the IOW the day I bought it.

  4. Id love another scoot and looked at these. Not quite sold on em but at one point ther e was a rumour the vespa 300 gts engine was going in, now that would have been something! What sort of weight is it. Id love a scoot for the back of the bus for getting around one when camped.

The 200 is out now but not sure about the 300. Piaggio had a shock at the amount of Scomadis sold and saw a threat emerging from what many saw as a gimmick.
The manufacturers are UK based, operate out of PM Tuning in Morecambe - they have sourced an alternative 300 lump and I think will be going largely water cooled from now on.

All the panel work is plastic, only the frame is steel and that is a more lightweight version than an original Lambretta frame. It is longer, higher and slightly wider, but im sure its lighter than a Lambretta, also got Electronic ignition, LED lights, gauges that actually work - a long way from my first Vespa 50 Special.

Places like ScooterLabUk seem to have plenty of test ride and launch info, and second hand models are available now as people trade up from 50's and 125's to 200's.

I got my 50 to chuck in the back of my panel van but sold the van, but im sure it will fit in the back diagonally, or into the walk-through a bit.

  6. I assume you use a ramp to wheel it up into the van.

  7. No, years of man handling mainly broken down scooters into vans, people carriers etc have honed my balance and lift techniques so that if absolutely necessary, I can lift the front in holding the forks, then having taken the scooter side panels off, lift the back end in holding the rear shocks. Have cushions ready to catch it if it starts to go sideways and make sure you've got something to tie it down with once you levered it onto its stand.
If anything, lifting one through a relatively low T2 slider is easy.

  8. just worried about your back. be careful with it.

  10. A lad I work with had a Scomadi 50 and had nothing but hassle with it. It certainly looked great but the build quality was a bit lacking, in the year he had it it had to have a replacement engine after going back to the dealer about 6 times. He couldn't wait to get rid of it in the end but on the other hand his Dad has a 200 and it's been fine!

  11. Interesting. Not sure ive got the readies to spare but I wouldnt mind a go at a 200. Or 180 as they really are. Bhp looks quite low considering but torque aint bad.

  12. Been looking em up and the company that manufactures them is paul melici, and frank sanderson.

  14. Yes, Paul Melici of PM Tuning in Morecambe, been at the forefront of 2 stroke performance scooter parts for years and thus able to supply after market expansion pipes and performance (de-)regulators to get a bit more BHP out.

The 50cc engines are Chinese made, from the generic GY6 engine range that gets put into lots of twist and go scooters from the far east so plenty available and cheap if they go pop. Someone on ebay is offering while you wait upgrade kits from 50cc to 100cc for £199 fitted.

  15. I did the 200 an injustice... its 18.3 brake with a similar power to weight ratio as the vespa GTS300

  16. Nearly two years on and still not got one. However..... watch this space!
