Okidoke - cut to the chase - flappy sanding disks on an angle grinder are the don (as long as you take it easy!!)
I've tried wire brushes, wire brushes on a drill, round composite aluminium disk on a drill, composite disks on a drill and sand paper on a rubber disk thing for a drill, even the strips of sandpaper on a disk for a drill. Oh, and electric sanders.
Short of air tools - anyone recommend anything better?

  2. Nitromores? Bit more work but cuts right down to bare metal without damaging anything

  7. With you on the flappy sanding discs on a girder. Only just discovered these and they do the business with a lot more subtlety than a grinding disc. Nitromores is good too but can work out expensive if you've a large area to do.

  8. That's grinder not girder. Sanding discs on a girder take a lot more work.

  9. i have tried the poly whatsits very good not much heat if you move them about you get hit with rust and stuf so ware ppe you can get them cheaper of fleebay about a fiver 8/10 i think

  10. i was just going to say strip and clean disk(the 3m trade name for the poly disk thing) that all i have ever seen any one use in any of the bodyshops i've ever worked in but we used to use the 4"? size on a splindle in the air drill or the 2"? size with the air die grinder. they clean paint of straight to shiney metal in seconds. no one would use paint stripper in a bodyshop due to containation getting into new paint :(

  11. I agree with 13 windows, paint stripper is hard to get rid of,
if you get it in a joint and don't get it out It will come back you in the arse, dry strip with discs etc is best .
