Got my engine back in and after lots of messing about and finding a faulty electronic ignition, finally got the engine running last night, but it's running bad. Not been out in it, just with it running in garage and it's spluttering and backfiring like mad when you try to rev it?????? Iv just put on a pair of twin weber 34ict carbs, 2nd hand but in good nick and off a similar 1641 engine. Any thoughts guys??????
check and make sure all of your timing is set-up correctly, leads to plugs are in the right order first etc. Have you replaced your ee with points? Eliminate the obvious first. Dual carbs have to be balanced and can be very simple to set up or a complete pig. What you need is a vacuum balancing gauge (differential manometer) to do this right.
Cheers guys, I'll go back through everything, starting with most obvious first. I think that iv been stressing over it for a few days and just going round in circles with this n that, probably not doing things in the right order etc. 1 thing, if iv got my head screwed on right iv set static timing, but to confirm that I'm at the correct position for tdc, #1 tappets should be loose, yes???

I was questioning if you've ever tried their manometer, or the one on eBay you didn't even bother to link to. To me it just sounds like your normal assumption that anything they sell is crap, and anything on eBay is automatically better... Believe me mate, I'm worried not if you think I'm worth it.
yes and yes ..my friend bought the jk one and i got one from ebay as im fitting twin carbs next month hopefully if i got nuff wonga to get em ,for everyones refrence when i bought my camper i was told to use gsf parts or machine 7 ..i didnt i put a massive order in to justkampers for nearly one of everything on my bus that needed restoring ,i maxed out a visa card with em ,should have listened to vwfish and went with machine 7 or gsf ...coz the service i received was crap ,they wanted me to pay postage to send faulty parts back ,parts not fitting,..neway my probs are old hat...i just hate em now with a vengence bordering on joking .....sorry to hijack ya post bruv
tbh id bitch slap anyone of em .....have a laugh at this one searcher..ordered 2 door refurb kits .....one came with chrome surrounds,one came with brushed steel...when i phoned and said i wanted a matching pair ..the guy said you look at your bus from one side at a time anyway ,why you bothered......proper comedian that bloke was ..
Funnily enough, I ordered those chrome scrapers too but from Machine 7 and got exactly the same response as you!! I just laughed at them and they sent the right parts next day. Not really the end of the day! I've had nothing but great customer service from JK to be honest and it seems that most are in the same boat as me.
they were great at first bruv ,wish id have got machine7 ones instead...i havent even bothered fitting mine as there jk ones..gonna sell em at the next show i hopefully will get too and buy machine 7 ones instead....must be a on going joke about the sides within the vw wholesale community loooool
