RR Bed Slipping

Discussion in 'Camper Conversions' started by SeanAlex, Dec 27, 2019.

  1. Evening All!

currently sorting some niggles on the camper. The most annoying is that our volkswares bed slips forward and back ready back when you sit on it.

any one modified to fix this? Is Rusty Lees bed better? It’s full width by the way.
    Cheers sean

  3. If your upholstery is fabric as opposed to vinyl, glue some thin exhibition carpet to the RnR, will keep it in place and no faffing about lining up strips of velcro. If it's vinyl then it's velcro strips unfortunately.

  4. It’s upholstery! The main problem is when you lean back the seat moves forward if that makes sense? ;)

  5. Had the same problem with mine. Glue on a bit of carpet and enjoy a whole new world of non slippage.

The seat pad or the seat?

  7. The seat! Doesn’t seem very sturdy!

  8. I have the same bed and same issue. I'm still finishing my resto so haven't bothered fettling too much but it does seem hard to use and a bit wobbly.

  9. My mistake.

It probably needs something solid to stop on - like the Devon beds coming down hard on the vertical panel of Weetabix laminate at the front of the storage space under the seat.
This then stops the very solid Devon rock n roll seat mechanism seat base moving forwards and backwards..in their design even if junk stops it going all the way down, hitting the panel seems to lock it.

Maybe blocks fitted either side under the front of the seat part that it rests on while people sit on it. Then add a stop or two to the frame that stops against the blocks ( or the panel under the front of the seat)

Thinking should be - one has bought a prototype/low production volume product. It is quite possible that it is not designed 100% perfectly, so some modification to its installation may be needed. It could be for instance that the first versions worked well in a bus with 25 mm floor insulation, or maybe none.

  11. Just tie the missus to the bed! Practice your Japanese rope-work - I have never fallen out yet![IMG]

I've a Rusty Lee one and I drilled through the frame to secure the cushions which have plywood sewn into the bases.
