  1. Lookin good

  2. G'day all. The beam is off to the sand blaster's tomorrow weather permitting it's raining here at present & down to a miserly 23deg Celsius hate the cold. bought the tube to build the diff x members out of rear will be easy as it has the late type bell housing mounts above the gearbox so can hang front off that & rear off separate member. the front diff will mount of what was the rear mounting point to the front beam & be supported by another custom x member also center bearing in tail shaft will have a similar member . A job for tomorrow is to get aluminum plate to make blank for water pump. and start to cut the 10cm x5cm tube for the drive line frame.still looking at different mounting idea's to bolt it in in 1 piece so motor g/box & transfer case can lift out in it.3 plans for it need to pick the best so a lot of measuring & timber template forming before hand I use the same size in pine to build jig out of. have to pickup the engine lid on Monday it's of the mate's boat he replaced a inboard with an outboard so now my cover may need a bit of modifying to fit if it's to much will get 1 folded up instead.

  4. G'day row. I just don't get you lot over there. down here in oz we have been taught English since the first fleet arrived so I will try to help you out. I am building a 1976 bay van into a midengine 4x4 using a collection of parts starting with a rover v8 behind the front seats Toyota 5speed gearbox Datsun transfer case izusu front spindle's of a rodeo & holden commodore IRS differential's front & rear. do you have picture in your mind yet sorry if my English is so different

  5. Hi Rover I think we get the English its the technical challenges we struggle with. Nice to see someone doing something different.

  6. G'day all. bigger pics of motor[IMG][IMG]

  7. G'day again been getting all the ebay bit's over the last couple of day's pic's tomorrow still waiting for digital gauges to arrive. A you can see the nissan transfer is a nice compact unit but capable of handling rover. The design is perfect for this type of conversion by setting input shaft at top & output's inline underneath you get both diffs in the center so equal length axles & even travel on them all for tonight. bye

  8. front spindle compared to kombi a bit of work ahead to sort steering height out but she'll be right [IMG][IMG]

  9. front spindles note kombi stub. they are used back to front for steering [IMG][IMG][IMG]

  10. G'day all. some pics of 5speed with rattle can rebuild[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

  12. G'day Dicky good to think some thing that has been a thought for so long coming to fruition. I fell onto this site via google while looking for the factory built AWD but having a friend with a syncro that I converted to ej20turbo 10 years ago & seeing him buy 2 spare syncro's for their boxes & go thru 2 second hand gearboxes & 2 rebuilt in it so the cost of transmissions has been prohibitive for him so the thing is currently sitting in his shed awaiting a subarugears box. Having met Todd who developed the reverse pinion & seeing 1st hand the quality of his product I could have just did it that way but I have had thing for this build for over 30 years & being retired it has made the brain kick in to releave the boredom. Prior to this bay I had 2 splits a 56 & 67 model both had datsun l18 motors in them with toyota crown disc brakes & IRS single plate box running a late 225 mm kombi clutch took some time to work out starter had to get a spacer made out of starter housing to space 2 litre out to majke up for the difference in bellhousing location & a bit of clearance for pressure plate then that kit found it's awy into my daughters baja after she killed the 1600. I will post some pics of the van itself next week. It's At my daughters so I only get to it for 2 days a fortnight but I'm doing the majority of the mechanical stuff at home the wiring harness plan is laid out on the floor in chalk now to transfer it to a sheet of plywood then build it all in 1 go the rear is simple just a 7 core trailer wire. picking up diffs to day not to bad the front open wheeler $60.00 the rear LSD $70.00 good having a contact in the scrap metal who charges by the kilogram instead of the wreckers value
take care hope the weather's a bit better over there. My youngest daughter came home in January after 2 years living & working in London she is now working i rockhampton she had a whinge that it was 28deg c yesterday saying it's supposed to be cold now. all for now

  13. sound like youve kept pretty busy with motors mate. Its been a barmy 17C here today - nearly took my jumper off:). will look forward to your updates.

  14. G'day again Dicky just took some pics of bits & pieces of ebay so cheap for some stuff I don't know what your parts prices are like over there but all our aftermarket stuff is up there even with our dollar higher than the states we are copping it upthe we are lucky that Todd is in oz otherwise no one could afford to go 5speed so here are some bits note the subaru impreza cup holder to the side 1 of the best to use in just about anything. The LED light's are white & amber for park & blinker's I plan on filling in airvent & blinker holes for a nice clean panel & recess blinkers & parker's into front bar. The blue item is the remote oilcooler fitting's electric water pump gauges are digital oil temp & pressure water temp volts & (tacho not here yet)

  15. G'day all just picked up the intermediate shaft so I could test for length before the workshop weld's it so here you are in bit' & together. the kombi flange has to have the spline machined out & he toyota yoke machined to press fit into it. the other shaft is the nissan original unit I could have shortened it but would have been tight fit in available space

  16. G'day all just picked up shaft to test for length before shop welds it. It consists of the end of kombi axle gearbox drive flange toyota gearbox yoke &nissan transfer case flange.

  17. Gday all here is intermediate shaft at angle so you can see what's involved pretty simple flex joint[IMG]

  18. G'day all. Started playing with the front diff today just sat it in position to get ideas on position & axle angles look pretty simple as far as room & locating it here are some pics. As you can see everything is in a good position to make mounts I will build tube xmember to bolt between the cassis rails behind the beam to support the drive flange end the front will bolt onto the beam using a rubber mount hopefully the commodore mount will fit all for now more on. more on Monday.
