Roof bags! What you all got?

I’ve been looking at the NLA VW roof bag and also the campervan culture setup which is basically a landrover wolf box system. But can’t make my mind up and it is important to get it right, we can’t be turning up on our first camping trip with wet strides or sleeping bags!

  2. Anything you really need to keep dry I wouldn’t risk storing up there tbh, sleeping bags and clothes all stay inside the bus.

I found an old aluminium suitcase that fits ok, made some leather straps to secure it. Mostly waterproof so ok for chairs, bbq or sandy /damp wetsuits etc.

Haven’t you got one of those roof rack shelter type things Rob? Forgot where I’ve seen them but look like a good idea.

  5. We have had the NLA roof bag for maybe five/six years now. Use to store ground sheets, wellies even a pair of levelling ramps. Basically for stuff that gets dirty and don’t want in the bus. Unfortunately it has had ingress of water a couple of times so would never use it for clothes and anything else you wouldn’t want to get damp.

Brilliant thanks for info just trying to work out how we are going to use the storage space to suit really. We also have a Westy trailer so was thinking our “dirty” stuff such as chairs, bikes, awning etc can go in there.

I buy a new polytarp and make sure its wrapped round and then held down with a cargo net.
It is wrapped so water cant blow in the front or rain from above. But dry bedding and clothes stay inside the bus.

Okey donkey looks like the general consensus is that clothes and bedding stay in the van. So it looks like the chairs and the Coleman awning can go upstairs! I'm probably going to do what @mikedjames or @KarlB has done or even go for the NLA VW bag like @ckandjk have done. I'll measure up and see what I can fit in whatever bag/tarp. Many thanks for your help..

Dunno....it was on a Volvo/Audi/BMW/Merc estate car...I assumed they were competing people and fussy about outdoor shenangigens.
