Rockford Fosgate amps/speakers/head unit/wiring install!

  1. Ok, so I am a big music lover, and really enjoy listening to music while driving. I like groups like America, Kraftwerk, Grimes, Little Dragon, and Ingrid Chavez while driving my bus on the weekends. I originally pulled the factory radio out, and used a factory block off plate and installed an old (2004 model) JVC head unit and 12 disk changer in my bus that I had laying around in my garage. Found some old cheap Realistic 6x9 speakers, Pioneer 6.5" door speakers , a Rockford Fosgate P2 10" sub with enclosre and 2 Rockford Fosgate Punch amps (300 4 channel, and 300 1 channel) I had laying around my garage from previous cars I had sounds in.

I mounted me JVC Head unit inside my glovebox, bolted to the actual glovebox, and mounted my cd changer right behind my drivers seat (somewhat hidden) It sounded really nice, and I always got compliments on how clean it sounded but that was not enough, I wanted more:

I got out my handy, dandy credit card and started going wild! I sold my Punch amps, and removed my speakers. I sold my sub, and removed all my previous amp wiring. I kept my head unit, and changer to off-set some of the cost of what I was about to do...

    I ordered:

    (1) 50 foot spool of 2 gauge wire.
    (1) 50 foot spool of 12 gauge Lightening Audio (made by Rockford Fosgate) speaker wire.
    (2) 2 gauge Lightening Audio (made by Rockford Fosgate) amp installation kits.
    (1) Rockford Fosgate Power T1500 1bdCP amplifier 1 channel (sub)
    (1) Rockford Fosgate Power T800 -4ad amplifier 4 channel
    (1) Rockford Fosgate Power T2D4 12 inch Sub w/ enclosre.
    (1) Rockford Fosgate Power T2652S 6.50 door speakers.
    (1) Rockford fosgate Power T1693 6x9 rear speakers.

The sound is very loud, loud enough to make you feel like your going deaf, but it dosen't have a clean sound to me. I will be purchasing the Rockford Fosgate 3sixty sound processor, and Rockford Fosgate RFX9901DM head unit in the near future to round out my sound system.

  2. have you spent some time on the install? The processor will help, but good installation is the key. Plus it will take you weeks to dial it in to how you like it it....if you try tuning it for more than an hour at a time, your ears will lose sensitivity...and you'll find it almost impossible to make subjective decisions on what's happening quality wise.

Spend four or five hours messing and it sounds great....come back to it two days later and the same track at the same settings sounds carp....Have you run any pure sound files thru it and set your gains with a multimeter....? It's better than using your ears, as you can disconnect the drivers and experiment with different volume outputs, without doing the neighbours heads in...Should be some more info on RF forum.

  3. I did about 15 min. of tuning at low volumes (volume 1). I really haven't had any time to do anything else to it. In the very near future (2-3 months) I'll have a new head unit, and sound processor. Also, I have no capasitor installed. My connections so far are good. I took my time when doing the install. My only other concern is the amperage of the alternator. My bus only has a 55 amp alt., and I'm wondering if that is enough? I know I had the volume on 1 and let the cd player play for a few seconds with my bus off and it killed my battery! I will check out Rockford Fosgates website for more info. Thanks in advance.

  5. You should hear it...

  6. I wanted to pay off my credit card before I purchase my new head unit and accessories. However, my old one is failing.... Hmmm, what to do?

  7. I wouldn't be running this lot through a newer cars cranking battery let alone a bus with a small alternator, you really need a yellow optima with a capacitor and a split charge otherwise it's going to drain your battery even when your driving!
I had an Astra once with a simaler Rockford fosgate setup and I went through 3 alternators 110A ones as well!
All your lights will dim when the base drops :)

  9. Im thinking of upgrading to a 110A alternator, and a dual battery setup, with AGM batteries. What do you guys think?

  10. I'm not really a Bass Head, I like clarity, but on CD's like Kraftwerk, or Little Dragon I can rattle the neighbor's windows across the street from my garage, set off car alarms 2 houses away, and choke people sitting in my bus if they drink soda, or water when a bass note hits!
