Brave bloke - just driving in that era was mental.

If anyone's ever had burns, you'll know how painful they are - how he could pull a helmet on over them is remarkable.

    A very remarkable life, RIP.

  15. lucky enough to meet him in 2017, one of the all time greats, and still a trusted member of the mercedes team even up to last yr.

  16. A legendary gentleman from a bygone era .
Saw the film (Rush ??) a couple of years ago , I'm not a massive f1 fan but a good portrayal of a bonkers time .
    A life well lived ...
    RIP.

  17. I met him back in the early '80's, when he visited Dubai in his Lear jet.
He had burst a hydraulic hose when he selected 'gear down' for landing.
My boss at the Dubai Airwing, another Austrian, roped me in to give Niki a hand with the problem.
I found a new hose and fitted it, but we did not have suitable jacks to lift the aircraft for a 'gear swing'.
Under the circumstances I dispatched him back to Austria with the gear down, a long slow process!

    RIP Niki, Blue skies.

  18. Very sad news, my all time motor racing hero:( There's been plenty of brave drivers in F1 but not many stared Death in the eye like he did and promptly raise a middle finger:hattip:
