    oi ! . ;)

Here's a blast from the past , can anyone remeber the g string test , i was talking to old mechanic mate about the cables last night and he said - g string Malc , i went blimey yes forgot that .

Basically pull handbrake on tight flick cable and if it does'nt sound like a g string or have a nice twang then its stretched , i learned this over 30 years ago - and promptly forgot good tip for all steel cables !!

i did the g string test and got a dull thud on the side i am working on and a nice resounding twang on the other cable , so just the one cable at the mo , have to inspect the other side before ordering .

Anyone got any preferences on handbrake cable suppliers ?.

spent the morning trying to get the hand brake cable off , it was a game , we had twisted and bent the cable shroud tube where it goes through the chassis , jiggled it out but broke it in three pieces as it was so rusty , salvaged what i could but might replace it with plastic tubing .

Garage is nice n tidy now and the replacement cable should be here tuesday , i shan't do the othe jobs until this is done because its up on the trolley jack and a bit iffy .

thanks to Woody for reminding me Camper Jam tickets are on sale next week. It spurred me on to attacking my to do list.

So far this week I have managed to get the hand brake working, not as straight forward as hoped but non the less now done. The brakes lights are now working as they should and today I spent the whole day fixing the horn. Again not a straight forward job because PO had fitted a empi steering wheel without an earth connector ring instead of going parp parp it went blankerty blank. With a lot of buggeration today I can now parp me horn.

3 jobs off the MOT list 2 left, refit off side CV joint, off side front brake back plate then a final check over and Rhubards ready for MOT.

Thanks Woody you spurred me on yeeeee ha Cowboy.

  15. Wahoooooooooo nearly there dude

I dont thing the mot has changed yet so the ball joint gaitors are only an advisory not a fail

Stick it in for its mot now dude and if it fails on any other parts you can order them at the same time as the gaitors and save yourself two lots of postage

  16. devil hates a coward lol owen nw

  17. Go on malc stick it in for its MOT

When it passes you will be able to rib me for years about the one you saved that i told you to get rid off

Some serious bragging rights youll have once that certificate is in your hands

Soz rick dude january is the planned mot date bro. I can't afford to do too much work if it fails at the mo. Xmas is a coming mate but i am sorely tempted ; ;D :) :)

Owen, thanks. It fitted a treat mate.

  19. Id say it would be £50 worthwhile to stick it in now even if it fails

Theres no point putting new ball joint boots on it if the ball joints are fecked as you will have to buy new ball joints complete with boots and there may be more parts that follow simaler thinking

Im not saying it will fail but youve hit the time in a resto where its helpfull to have an mot mans checklist to work through
You may find it saves you cash in the long run

  20. Yea, go on, put it in for its MOT now

^^^ Para is right mate, at least you can work on any other bits at your leasure then :D
