RHD Bay abroad

Discussion in 'Restorations' started by Bay_abroad, Feb 27, 2012.

  1. When a RHD Bay came up for sale in Germany and close to home it had to be bought. With the bus came quite a history with plenty of receipts.

Receipts showed that a new VEGE engine had been fitted in 1998 and in 2001 the correct size carburettor a 1600cc replaced the 1300cc that had been fitted. In 2009 more than what I paid for the bus had been spent on welding to the inner and outer sills, jacking points, outriggers, rear panel, front panel, bumper mount and wheel arches front and rear. The bus had also been lowered and brush painted with yellow hammerite.
To the present day after a close inspection I would say at least 95% the previous welding will need to be redone and most of the panels replaced, including the front panel.

  3. nice looking bus :)

are you doing the work your self?

    keep the updates comming

K+ for a new resto thread

  4. I intend on doing the vast majority of work myself with the help of some of the guys and lasses I work with. I have an engineering background, although it's not in vehicles, so hopefully with the assistance of this forum I will be able to ensure that I have a solid bus at the end of the restoration. Plus I have the advantage of buy parts from Germany and the UK particulary from flea-bay!!

  8. I thought it was about time I updated my restoration post. With work and family I haven't spent as much time as I would like working on the bus.

The previous work that had been done was shocking I can only put it down to:
    1) Day light robbery (although the garage / company involved supplied a free window sticker).
    2) The garage / company quoted the previous owner a quick fix rather than a proper fix.

The amount of filler that had been plastered on the rear end must have cost a fair bit.

After much cutting I am finally getting around to welding in new metal, which is quite gratifying.

  9. crikey, how much metal did you cut out ...........its only half the van it was

.........very nice work and great trailor :)

  10. Great work, can I see more of the trailer?
    :) K+
