Respray costs and recommendations for quality resprays in the Northwest

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Mathew Clarkson, Jan 4, 2015.

  1. Hello what sort of money am I looking at for a complete respray im guessing around 3-4k?
Although the van should require very little prep work as the front panel, arch steps, rear quarters, centre driver side panel and sills will all be new so im hoping this should save me a few quid that can be spent elsewhere on the van.

Inside? outside? engine bay? wheels? pop-top outside and inside? Dash board? how many colours? Solid colour or a metallic?
Who takes it apart and reassembles? Who take the engine out?

I'm not going to venture an answer, but you will need to be more specific if you want a sensible one.

  3. Haha ok Zed, The van is stripped and has been soda blasted.
I want the van done in two colours and metallic inside and out including the engine bay, pop top and wheels and im going to resemble it myself.
Possibly the underside as well if I can find a clear underseal.
    Sorry its my first project

  4. Plenty of daft questions to follow over the next few months

    4K if you're lucky upwards.
There will now be a bunch of posters saying how they got their's done for £200. :D

  7. I got a few quotes ranging from 6k to 10k. If you can do the boring stuff yourself you save lots. I was going to do all the sanding myself, so I did, then thought ah I'll do some fillering, so I've done half so far, primered the inside,

Im going to primer the engine bay, paint the inside and all the inside parts myself, and the underside. So just the outside, engine bay and poptop for the sprayer and I think it'll cost me about 3500

For what you want up there^ sounds like 10k to me :(
    Considering filler, primer, paint
All the scrubbing of the underside then paint and waxoyl. All the sanding.

  8. if it's had all that welding and been soda blasted, i'd guess it'll need loads of prep. The only vans that need almost no prep are ones that have had no welding and aren't dented.

  9. should also say that the way to save money is do all the strip and assemble yourself, lights out, doors off, windows out everything. :)

  10. Is that from experience or a guess? Didn't think it would cost anywhere near that I hope it doesn't

my mate has his own place, he had a look over mine and said to do it properly would cost 6k that was my limit to "experience"

  12. <<<<<That one cost 9K.
    Tony.

not necessarily. you can get a good job done for that money, but i'd say it's the lower end of a proper job unless you know someone in the trade.

  15. i had a few quotes and 6k is very good all in all the prep and to a high standard 10k is realistic, the lower the price the less time is put into the prep etc

  16. Bare minimum is going to be £4k... You've got nearly £1k in paint and painting materials

I hope so the van os already in etch and the panels replaced are complete replacements

I budgeted £2k for paint... I was well out too.

Best advice is to do most of it yourself mate, it ain't hard to sand, it's not that hard to fill and it's not that hard to primer (with the right gear)
Just boring and time consuming. Then your costs come way down and you get more satisfaction.

  19. What I mean by complete is full rear quarter replacements, corners and centre panel, front panel and arches and the roof has been lead loaded

  20. Got a pic of your bus? If it's already in etch, and straight, the costs won't be near 10k
