Think green (might have a grey or white stripe?) is a test wire to the comp socket from coil -ve?

  2. Havent reversed electro ignition wiring only loom, green was connected before to coil. will upload pic later.:).

  3. Ok can I test electro unit.
Its a pity it don't start as passing your place tomorrow as going mtb with kids to Highlodge and was going to give you an old condenser tester thingy I found when cleared out a load of my old stuff. :(

I don't know a proper test, but when all wired up in the bus, if you attach your timing light while someone turns it over and it flashes it's fine.

  5. rotor mark at no 2 now, altered wiring with Sandybay so where rotor points is no 1 then 4,3,2 inclockwise rotation ??

    Isn't it going yet?

What do you mean by "rotor mark at no 2"?

Looking from above the rotor was at about 2 o clock but it 'seemed ' to be between two posts on the distributer cap.

Even with a jump from a second battery the engine was turning over quite slowly though.

We have fuel and a spark at a spark plug.

Is that after static timing? I guess you're at the wrong bulb on/off and 45 degs out

  10. afraid we didn't static time it too much coffee being drank.

Thing to to when there's 2 of you and a timing light is try and start it, with timing light on and move the distributor round while it's turning over. When the mark approaches the right place it'll start.. Simple but effective.

  12. why didn't we fink of that !! ,thanks will try that tomorrow.

That's roughly what we did try. Turning it over while I twisted the dissy, no hint of firing and I moved the dissy as far as it would go each way.

I didn't think the bulb trick worked with electronic distributors

  14. Don't suppose you've had any sudden inspiration ??

Have you sorted the batteries, the engine should be turning over much quicker than it was.

  16. Charging battery and jump starter now will have another look fri/sat. checked plugs they were not wet last nite. going to check static timing, leads again,
If valve clearances wrong that may be why its struggling to turn over ,

Ahh maybe I should have asked last night if you'd done the valves. I don't think that would make the engine turn slower though.

    This is fun. :)
I think you need a fresh pair of eyes, or go through it all again starting with valve gaps.
Or you might just be being unlucky with your flattish battery and flooding it before it has a chance to start, though I'd have thought you'd get the odd bang.
I'm itching to come and have a look, but no time. :(

  19. Don't fink its flooding that quick had a try earlier and had a little pop so will possibly try purge fuel again as Paul mentioned . Thanks not my idea of fun, van sat in garage with my kayak above it and the whitewater is calling. shame your so busy I make great coffee sure I will work it out. May take laptop in garage on sat and not emerge until its running. :)
