Recommendations for door seals

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Weasel, Jan 13, 2019.

  1. Where do you guys currently recommend to get good quality door seals from? Looking for cab and sliding door.

(I'm hoping that this gets rid of an annoying penny-whistle type noise over 60mph.)

I know... save a bunch of money and drive at 58...

Get the nice soft squidgy grey ones. Schofields and Custom & Commercial certainly do them, not sure about others. They're more expensive, but worth it IMHO

  5. Do we have a forum discount code for Schofields?

  6. As above , schofields for the win , expensive but far better quality .
If it's only a whistle try running a bead of window foam around the aperture to seal . Depends how 'precious' your van is..

  8. They need replacing anyway... the ones on there are in multiple pieces by the look of it with daylight in many places. I could try that first to see if it is actually the door seals. I thought it was the plug hole in the sink for a while but various tests disproved that. It goes away/ or improves with the sliding window open but its too cold this time of year to drive around with that open all the time.

I had a whistle....Turned out to be the roofrack (Westfalia type).
A piece of rubber along the front edge sorted it ( with gaps for rain to run out)

Our Chip whistles. The door seals are excellent, as is the fit of the doors themselves.
If you have sliding vents fitted in the door cards, have a play with them. I can't remember if its closing them or opening them that stops the whistle, but one or the other does!
And like you, we learned to use it as a speed regulator so happily drive along now waiting for him to whistle to us...

  15. The only genuine vw door seals available are vw Brazil ones and they cause door shutting issues.

Thanks for all the input. Even yours Barry.

  18. I had a whistle above 55mph and turned out to be the front grill mesh so inserted a strip of poly behind the mesh and sold the roof rack (which had a rattle) for good measure. Can now hear the wife talking!!!!! but the radio has a volume button!
