Rear shock absorber bolts pitch sizes/Spax query

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by andyv, Jun 18, 2018.

  1. I had my rear dampers off yesterday to replace the bushes. The bolts weren't in terribly good shape but I needed the bus running so put them back on and failed to measure them. Both are M12 x 100 mm but there are two different thread pitches. The bottom one is coarser then the top. Does anybody know what these are?

Also one of the adjusters on the Spax units has seized. There's a slotted screw which you can turn to firm/soften the ride. I had it soaked several days in Plus Gas but it won't move and I'm bothered about snapping it off. Has anybody managed to free one of these? The shockers cost an arm and a leg and work OK so replacement is a last resort.

  2. It occurs to me that the bottom ones may not be original, so I could replace all four with the same as go into the top bush.

  3. Hard to imagine they’re different pitches. Bottom ones likely replaced by PO. Kay’s Fasteners on eBay will sell you some new ones. Assume they’re 8.8s?

  4. standard M12 is 1.75 pitch M12 fine is 1.25 pitch but your guessing unless you measure them
