I believe most Westys don’t have the bottom mount holes. I had to use an M8 rivnut to fit my bracket.

  2. I’m entirely confused by this. It attaches to 3 points. A 3 point seat belt is a seat belt that attaches to 3 points. How is the 254 technically a 2 point?

It attaches at 3 points , but the 3 point attaches at 4 , is that better

  4. 2 bolts in the bracket. One on the bulkhead and one on the wheel arch.

  5. I see. What you mean is the bracket strengthens the shoulder mount by adding another bolt, which is fair.

They are both still 3-point harnesses, though, which is the point. Properly installed 2-point harnesses are strong enough to restrain you, but there is a risk of slipping out in high-speed collisions, as well as bashing your head on the steering column, or injuring your spine. The 3-point belt was invented to prevent that.

3-point belts are safer because they restrain both your waist and torso, not because they are attached to more parts of the car.

If your 2-point lap belts are at any risk of tearing free in a collision, you’ve got problems a third point won’t fix.

Thanks very much for that. I’m gonna look up riv nuts now!

  8. If you're going for one of the cheaper rivnut tools, best to regard it as a one-time tool. In my experience, even doing an M8 will be a struggle if you can't extend the handles to get a bit of leverage. Smaller rivnuts will tend to break the mandril. Aluminium rivnuts better, stainless will be a real struggle if you haven't got the right tool.

Ah. Thanks snotty. That makes sense. How on earth do get a rivet gun tool either side of the panel?

  10. You don't. A rivnut tool squashes the nut from the front like a pop rivet. If your near the south west (Dorset) pop in I've got one and some nuts 10 minute job.

Because it has no shoulder fixing, it’s an inertia lap belt

  12. ^this. The tool just deforms the rivnut bush by pulling (hard) from the accessible side.

  13. I think we must be talking about different things. This is the Securon 254:

No that’s the one, see it has no loop that bolt up at shoulder height , it’s not a true 3 point belt

  15. I’m not sure where you are getting this idea of a true 3-point seat belt from.

If it has a belt that goes across your lap, and a belt that goes over your shoulder, it is a 3-point belt. That is what a 3-point seatbelt is. The three points are left hip, right hip, shoulder.

Correctly installed, these seatbelts are all equally safe. Everything else is comfort, convenience, and aesthetics.

I you fitted the 254 in the front as a 3 point belt it would not work as there is no shoulder mount and it would fail to be a 3 point belt

  17. you need one of the 500 or 264 series belts. See this link and scroll down to the 500 series.

The 264 has 32cm buckle webbing and should be the correct length to clear your RNR bed cushions.
