Rear lights and fuses...

  1. So ... rear light blow fuse as soon as switched on even with bulbs disconnected... and left indicator slows down with brake on... anyone figure common link there?

  2. Thats no 2 fuse.... just in case...

The common issue would be that the wiring on the lefthand rear light cluster is crazy.

Your indicator slowing with brakes says that the negative side of the brake light is connected to the negative side of the indicator bulb but not earthed to chassis ..so the earth for the cluster is disconnected and hiding..
and probably the rear light wire is wired to the earth tag instead of the bulb that side in an effort to do something with a messy straggly wire end.
Get a flashlight and poke around checking the colours of the wires going to the light cluster..

Check the wiring at the number plate light.

  6. All good answers so far.... swapping side light wires on front right seems to have cured fuse!... and indicator seem fine now too....but some shorting going on as screwing headlight back on set it off again.. think the wires through the body might need a check going back out see yall in 30 mins!

  7. Well that almost worked... fuse blowing issue sorted.. all lights good but indicator issue reappeared! Dark now so going in for tea and a sulk... .. that's supper and meditate to those down south :)

  8. @allibus where did you find your short?

  9. Check the wiring on the front side lights. If you've connected the wires the wrong way round like I did you get an immediate short. The same fuse serves the two front side lights, right rear side light and no. plate light. Only the left rear side light is separate.

  12. My wallet usually ;)

I've not looked yet, I just avoid indicating right and braking at the same time. People get upset about the smallest of things :D.

For me there must be a logical place to start looking but I've not worked it out yet. It only happens when I do both, indicate right and brake, on their own they are fine. So I guess it's somewhere near the cab / switches :(

  13. Ours was simple... bad connection on the earth tab on the rear lights.. all rusted and shocking quality.. just replaced the whole thing but you might get away with a clean and crimp tighten.

  14. Unfortunately(?) I refurbished both my rear light clusters polishing all the contacts to within an inch of their life, crimping tight the connections as well. :)

    So not them :(

  15. How about the other end of the wire where it attaches to the body??? Long shot?

  16. Good idea, I'll check that when I look ;)

  17. We had a few mm of Rustoleum to get off ours!
