Rear backing plate

  1. After finally budging the hub nut (slogging spanner did the trick), I can't get the backing plate off, there seems to be a stud or something holding the adjuster housing to the suspension arm, which won't budge see photo, if you imagine the 2 bolt holes are eyes, it's where the nose is! Also struggling to remove the handbrake cable housing (second photo), which just seems to turn without doing anything. Any ideas welcome

  2. From memory, there's a steel dowel holding the adjuster. It may put up a considerable fight...

  3. The backing plate stud is just a metal pin, probably rusted together. Bit of wood and a hammer will get it off.

The cable thing is probably just rusted also as it has a metal end cap on, again.. pull harder. I had to cut mine off and hammer the remains out.

  4. As above, you may need to grab the metal ferrule on the cable end and give it a good twist. It may come out...or may not.

  5. A soak in plusgas and a pin punch and heavy hammer to drift the back plate pin out
Soak in plus gas and clamp mole grips onto the handbrake cable outer ferrule and rock it back and forth whilst applying more plus gas

  6. Mine was so rusty I just chiselled it off and the dowel came with it.

  7. Cheers all, great advice as always, and mission accomplished
