Quick split charge question...

  1. I'm sure this will be answered very soon.
I've had this kicking about for a while now and not used it. Has anybody got a wiring diagram for it? Cheers!

  3. It's not a split charge relay!

Any 30-40 amp 4 pin relay from your local auto shop for a fiver will do the job, there's nothing special about them, just the amps capacity.

  5. I think you can use it as a split charge unit, I have one wired to my fridge, it only supplies power to the fridge when the engine is on (kick in voltage can adjusted by the screw) and then when the engine is switch off the voltage drops and the fridge is switch off (time to run on gas) not sure which connector I used though, I'll Check

  6. Yeah I'm sure that was soled as a split charge. I can't remember where it came from, I just found it and thought I'd ask. Cheers!

the unit from JK with the fridge output looks just the job for you Andy ...

  8. From the description, it should work as a split charge relay if you wire it correctly. It's just a bit cleverer than a boggo job.

<edit> On a caravan, it appears to sense when the car battery (starter battery in our case) rises above ~12V - i.e. the engine's running. It'll then switch the 12V line to pin 2 on a 12S towing socket to charge a caravan battery. I assume you'd connect the "2" output to the leisure battery in a camper. So, doing the same thing as a standard relay triggered off the alternator light output.

I like the idea of this switching the fridge off if the battery goes below a certain current/amps - I presume it can work that way.... Can it?

  10. Appears so. If the battery voltage drops below a certain level (ie engine off), it'll shut the fridge battery supply off (if that helps - I know nothing about camper fridges). Quite clever.

  11. Thanks Art
I am all wired up, my fridge is 12v only and have already installed a 30amp switch relay from van bat to leisure batt so when van bat will no longer take the charge it runs over to leisure batt! :)
