Question: is a original Westfalia (73) interior worth much

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Dripstand, Apr 12, 2017.

  1. I have a Westfalia wardrobe and sink unit and wondering if they are actually worth much? Seen ones on eBay for silky money buy it now but not seen them sell. The one I have is quite battered wobbly (sink unit)?and splits in the wood . Guessing someone can Utd repair and refurbish them just don't know whether just to take down the dump instead of wasting people's time.

    Condition is very important.
Stuff to make them look good again is hard to come by.
The mustard coloured weave fabric almost impossible.
    Have you got any??
Please save it for posterity.. I might need some.;)

  7. Thanks all I wasn't sure. Sorry mine is a rhd set. Will dig it out next week get some photos and go from there. Even if I got £20 on auction I guess it's better going to someone to reuse than into the council tip and lost for ever. However if I get £150 each even better lol

I saw a complete mustard coloured so72 continental interior go for £2100 on ebay last summer. That's the 70/1/2 interior for British market in the lighter veneer with mustard cloth, not vinyl. I was amazed!

  10. Keep it air cooled and as original as possible ...I think that's where the money's at .... I know it's maybe not as usable but has the charm ...spunk 8k on a new interior and again on a go fast jap engine and I don't think it's a wise investment ..but then again that's just me

They're not an investment, no matter what reasons people give themselves to justify buying one.

I'll definitely have the roof bed if you are thinking about selling/splitting it.
Pm me if you are interested.:)

You love them and keep them as originally made.. . There won't be very many original examples the way we are all going.
That is my personal opinion of course..
Could have had a Scooby motor but refrained.
    Bought a new motor ex/NATO...
Probably cost the same in the end but at least it's practically original and still reliable as intended.

People seem to think they're going to spend £15k on one, use if every weekend, do thousands of miles without having to spend a penny on it, and sell it for £25k a couple of years later.
Will they go the way of 912s? Maybe, but I very much doubt it.

  19. Not wanting to get in to it too much but maybe your right, or maybe they haven't reached their ceiling yet ...I don't know ...I don't think you'd loose on one though ... I have a 10k budget and fancy a bit of a bash buying either a future classic or something vw that I can keep for a couple of years , enjoy and maybe make a bit on ( or just not loose) 914s are slightly too rich , done the bug thing and must be a car not van !(as already have westy) Doesn't have to be vw ....I'd love a BMW Z3 M coupe but too rich also ... ideas ?

    Sorry off topic

Even those who reckon they make, probably neglect to take into account what it costs to keep them on the road. Don't get me wrong, I reckon they do well compared to most marques, but I think a lot of newbie owners have a misguided idea that it's like investing in their future!
