Any suggestions for decent quality heater control knobs? The one which controls the exchanger flaps is a bit stiff even with new cables and the aftermarket knobs are of debatable quality and break easily.
Would think that the only strong ones will be the solid metal ( expensive) ones sold by JK and others.
Metal ones won’t fit a post ’73. And the crappy pink and grey plastic ones won’t fit a pre ’73. How hard can it be to make red and blue plastic levers that are not floppy?
Yes even OG ones feel scary with stiff heater cables. The real answer may be to get one of those hydraulic bowden cable pressure oilers and use that to lubricate the control cables... https://www.amazon.co.uk/HYDRAULIC-MOTORCYCLE-CABLE-OILER-PROFESIONAL/dp/B006GGNVLW/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?keywords=cable oiler&qid=1574268116&sr=8-4
The repro ones tend to look horrible, like something out of a Xmas cracker. I doubt whether they've improved. You might try VW themselves (VW Classics/Historics). They used to have NOS blue ones in the shed for about 11 euros - bargain!. Or somewhere like bus-ok.de.
