Know what you mean My doctor after giving me the finger check ...or was it two ! ...... I jokingly said We will have to meet here again sometime . Did not smile or show any expression . Think i should have just said ....Thank you Rowntree ....and walked out the door .
After my last check up I had a call from my GP some hours later saying that he'd lost his watch..........
Last time I was checked the doc had both hands on my shoulders at the same time which I thought was odd...
slightly different but the last time I had to visit the doc it was for a check on the meat and two veg and I'm sure she checked them properly, well she took her time about it.. on a serious note from what age do they suggest to do the checks, I have just turned 50 and received a letter ages ago about an mot but not needed to visit quacks in about 15 years, thankfully. been to a&e now and again for injuries but not docs
On a serious note, my old man died of this at 56. I have a regular blood test and get a right good fisting from the doc as often as I can.
On a serious note, cancer has decimated my family and I was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate 20 years ago, when I turned 30. My way of dealing with things like this is to look it in the eye and take the ******* out of it.
Having had several of these checks over the years, I've stopped trying to make conversation, I'm just glad that I've never 'followed-through'.
The finger up the bum is uncomfortable, but much friendlier than the alternative investigative route if you do have a prostate problem - I've had a couple of prostate infections in the past. Google Cystoscopy - if i ever need another one, it will be under a General Anaesthetic, again.
Yep, had one of those, which was part of my diagnosis. I had a general anaesthetic, but you could drive a Bay down my japseye afterwards.
I remember my first one (I've had 3) After all the screaming down of the place, they wouldn't let me go home until I pee'd - that was the LAST THING I wanted to do at that moment.
I read that 46 is the age to start having checks on the prostate. At 46 I approached my Dr about it but as I had burnt my hand they decided to focus on that issue and the prostate examination went by the by. At 50 I expected to be invited to the Drs for an MOT/ well man check up but nothing came so I contacted them at 51 and was told they do not do well man check ups or prostate examinations till 65..... So it would appear if at 65 they find I have prostate issues and it's untreatable, this is my Drs way of dealing with such things and I have no recourses! However I think the Dr will have to buy me dinner first before I let him get close and intimate with me.
Had mine done last year both the blood test and the finger all clear so happy days but deff worth having the checks done.
I had bladder cancer and now have regular cystoscopy checks. I also have to catheterise myself several times a day to empty my bladder. They keep an eye on my prostate in case the cancer had spread in that direction. After a while you get used to shoving catheters up.
The blood test is a guide but doesn't give any indication of an enlarged prostate, only the presence of cancer, and even then it's not definitive.
Thats where the sampling needle comes into play though there is a small risk of cell transfer to healthy tissue on removal..apparently. Only thing I would say is going through the rigmarole with an audience of trainees is a little off putting,
