Problem 2 in France. ..

  1. Really sorry to hear that.
It helps if the family don't hate you/the van from the experience.
It was my oldest's - 16th- birthday yesterday so comments were passed.
If I were you I would get it fixed tomorrow/tuesday and then get away again to the West Country and try surfing

Trying to but have no idea where to get an injector from to prove the original is faulty. I'll need to fix it before i sell it anyway.

Can't even look at it at the moment without wanting to take a sledge hammer to it.

  7. I had this a few years ago in my old t25 2 lt petrol. I was touring in the outer Hebrides and when going up any gradient it would stutter and stop. Would restart a little while later. Traced fault to water in the fuel which was sitting in the fuel filter. We had picked up a bad tank of fuel from some tiny one pump petrol stop on one of the islands. Kept cleaning out the fuel filter and re topped the tank regular to get rid of water.

  8. The AA rang to say that Cyril is now in a garage being looked at and to reconfirm the issue. I gave the the details plus suggestions from here.
Nothing else to do so just fired up the BBQ and pulled the cork on a bottle of red and white. Tastes great and only €4 a pop!
I look forward to hearing their progress :)

  9. Collected Cyril from the garage who said that there was water/moisture in the distributor, they dried it and now all ok, questioned them about the fuel filter but they said no definitely a electronic fault.
Have driven 120km & had same problem again! Now in narrow mountain roads near Privas & 45km from the family and campsite. ..
Thinking of letting Cyril cool down for half an hour then trying again and if that works will look at fitting a new petrol filter.
@lost-en-france do you know the name for car part store and petrol filter in French please?
If not AA again. Good point is no family here to worry about! LOL

  11. Thanks man, don't suppose you also have their code for a fuel filter for a T4 engine?

  15. Just out of interest, I would look under the dizzy..

  16. I lifted the cap before doing anything and no moisture obvious. Where else would you look?
BTW it has started, and stopped again on a nasty bend, I've managed to get started yet again and moved to safety n called the AA

  17. Sorry to be a dummy but I have electronic ignition, is anything live in there?

Any euro -parts place will do a suitable fuel filter for 5.6mm fuel pipe - you could ask at the first garage you see for the local parts factors. The one I got was for a fiat (Purflux p58 type), and vastly better quality than the universal one that plugged itself. Damp dizzy cap sound like nonsense I'm afraid, unless you've driven through a river!

  19. That's what I said myself....
Should have just asked them to also fit a new filter. ..

  20. Could it be fuel tank vacuum?
If it does it again, take off the fuel filler cap to see if you've built up a vacuum which the fuel pump can no longer overcome. If so, they'll be a massive inrush of air and it'll start again.
We had this last year and it indicates blocked or partially blocked fuel breathers. It meant stopping every 100mi to vent the tank.
