Potential Bus - Underside - Advice Needed Please!

Discussion in 'Buying a VW Camper' started by Gazaloid, Sep 8, 2014.

  1. Hi all,

And so the search continues...and the latest one up for review is looking moderately promising, although I've told myself that before and came away empty handed!

Long story short, I'm talking to someone about a potential purchase - interior and body work looks solid and ticks the boxes although does need work to bring it up to standard, which I'm happy to do. Given the various warnings regarding looking underneath, I've asked the seller for a number of photos which he's kindly provided. So I'd be really grateful for any feedback on these please. Thanks in advance!

that's as clean an under side as your likely to find, it may need a little in under arches, but that is nothing at all, late westy? how much?

  4. looks good but as rickyroo says what the hell is the massive coiled spring for and what would happen if un hooked?

  5. go and see it if at all possible...if it's yet to reach UK shores, and these pics are all you've got to go on, it looks pretty straight IMO....doesn't mean to say it's a minter, but if the gutters are good and the door shuts are tight all round, it'd be a good bus to retsore/tidy up
Factory plugs are still in place, as is the heater tube insulation etc.....so you have to assume it's not been messed around with much

it looks like the spring is part of whatever has lifted the front end up, doesn't look like the box section they are couple to is part of the bus. Id ask the seller, it looks good underneath, the surface rust will clean up easily enough!

yeah what mork says i see now the spring is on the jack thing.

  8. Thanks all. It's a decent bus and seems pretty much untouched and solid inside and out. Only challenge is the price and the fact that undoubtedly there's work to do - obviously needs fully treated and waxoiled and then needs other bits and pieces done to tidy it up. It's not in the UK so a big dilemma!

its not a dilemma if the price is good, you will need to do work on anything unless you pay 30k , how much is it ?

  10. Around about £13.5k. I reckon it needs a grand minimum on external, £500 on internal and the same again on doing the bits and pieces that need done. Then it's a case of starting to make it more practical (it's literally stock OG, no leisure battery, no speakers etc).

is that landed, duty paid to your door etc?, what country / state is it coming from, does it need a paint job , does it run drive?

  12. That's it in the UK, yep. It's coming from the US, Denver to be precise. Doesn't appear to need much in the way of panel work/paintwork and it's a full runner, I've seen it starting and running via webcam. Seems like a good runner by the sound of it though you never can tell.

It's either this or buy something that someone else has already done the basics on. Tricky.

  13. PS - it's my first bus and it's for actual use - not a project and not for show, this is for fun!
