Ply roof J channel

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by scotland1969, May 24, 2016.

  1. I'm in the process of fitting a ply roof lining, does anyone know the position of the channel the ply sits in. Exact measurements would be great.

  2. Anyone with a Westy able to take a look for me. I need the measurement from the top of the window rubber to the bottom of the channel.

  3. What year! Early and late are different. Mines a 73 with a front hinged roof aperture so probably same as a tintop. Can measure tomorrow.

My 79 Westy, approx 20m from top of door frame

  6. Bottom of j channel to top of middle and rear side window apertures circa 55mm.

  7. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

It sits down hard on the track for the sliding door. Take it from there and match the other side.

  11. In a Westy, well in mine at least, that bit doesnt have a ply roof section. The hinge bars get covered up by the headbanger rear ceiling unit

  12. [IMG]Sorry , not the best of pictures
I cut a slot about 70mm wide with a semi circle towards the front
You just need to check the rear door functions
Alternatively fit the plastic hinge cores and carefully shape the ply around them use templates

  13. Nice interior! Been doing mine for what seems like ages now

  14. I think the overhead cupboard is the way to go, having a full width bed limits storage!

  15. Persevere !!!! It will soon be done

  16. That looks pretty good did it fold over easy enough?

  17. Yes ! with a little manipulating. Just make sure you leave it long enough to glue on the rear

  18. It took a little bit of trimming in places, I didn't manage to get the J rail in the original position..I need to remedy the mess I made of the front panel tomorrow!
