  2. have you got any tools ? screw driver ?small one bigger one ?

  3. the engine area should be a nice temp ,for you to know the heater is hotter is as good as any sign...

If you want to carry on I suggest you turn engine on and twist dizzy until you feel the engine is still going nice and try it...Might be only 2-5mm either way..

  4. If you're gonna do 40 mph, stay in 3rd gear.

More revs = more cooling power from the fan!

  5. Got scre
Got screwdrivers but that looks too complicated for me - is there a simple way to richen it a bit or is that a bad idea

Not ideal but you could screw the volume control screw in slightly. It's the smaller adjustment screw on the left hand side of the carb. That'll reduce the volume of air slightly so richen the mixture.
You'll need a flat head screwdriver.

  10. yes full set plus sockets

  11. but the engine is working harder ...;)

Not sure it'll help if the timings out though and there's not really any way to check that without a timing gun.

  15. Had chat with Barn gonna give it another run for 20 mins

    Timing might have been better.

It won't be the mixture, it's the jet size that effects the mixture when running or an air leak can make it run lean. The mixture screw won't make any noticeable difference to running temps whatever you do with it and you said it's ticking over nicely.
I would get the timing checked, then carry on. Setting timing by ear will inevitably lead to too much advance as it will run much better like this, but then hole a piston. :(

  20. i had a chat it does seem like dipstick is reasonably ok . It is ticking over right by sounds , but i said needs to check for air leaks , oil ok no flickering he says he might be being a bit paranoid since sticking dizzy, and hes just done a long haul hill . i dont think its stinking .
