Going cheap why pay 5p i think they should charge more really , actually make people think , pound each or more . Old bag for life is the way forward
My granda used the same bog standard carrier bag for months. People are just wasteful and lazy. Saw the footage of the plankton eating plastic particles, our planet is a dump.
How are they going to control this? Certain items are exempt. So is someone going to stand watching you pack your bags in the supermarket to make sure you're not cheating? In Wales we pay for all bags. Even in clothes shops. You either take your own, buy one, or walk out with your new clothes over your arm. We use the bags for life.
If the government had thought things through they would have banned plastic bags in favour of paper bags
I reuse my supermarket bags as bin liners and for doggy dump. I have been forced to purchase nappy sacks for the latter, they are scented. Meanwhile, bags for life are 10p in the local coop, but just 5p in sainsburys, with the same replacement guarantee.
Stopped at the shops on the way home... Requires you to tell the machine how many bags you've used... So requires an element of honesty
M&S already had a system in place for self service. At the end they ask if you used a bag and they add the charge to your bill. Do this bit while the sales guy is off checking ID at another till.
the machine /computer has always asked if your using your own bags , if you use theirs n dont pay it just shoots you now
There is usually an assistant hanging round watching. You would have to be pretty sad to want to steal bags though.
Why all the hoo hah about plastic bags? Just another hidden tax because Cameroon and his cronies know that most people and this includes me, buy those canvas bags etc but forget to take them to the shops. Plastic bags come in at 3:30. Funny but probably very true. WARNING! Contains adult language that some members might find offensive.
That is actually the best use for plakky bags, as bin liners and the like. Recycling them doesn't really make sense.
Where is your sense of social duty? Rubbish hub caps makes for third world employment er and the distributors...
I've been trained by the lady in our local Co-op. If I don't take my own bag I get a glare. If I take my own I get a slightly nicer glare
Go back 30 years of so and all supermarkets used to charge for bags. I remember in Tesco and Kwiksave they were 2p each. It was a sales gimmic giving the bags away designed to lure shoppers by not having to pay extra for bags (they just added the cost into the price of the goods in reality). So what's different now? We will just need to get used to doing things differently. One thing I would say, if I have to pay 5p I'd prefer they provide a decent bag rather than the crappy thin ones that rip when you fill them. I think I'll be ok though. I've got a huge collection of old carriers. I have always re used them as bin bags etc. except those from Tesco which these days are crap.
What if you go to the butchers buy some of he's yummy sausages, he puts them in a carrier bag which is free for raw meat then you pop into the green grocer for a lovely banana placing it in the bag with the sausages. Who chargers you the 5p?
