  2. Update!
Engine bay has now been sorted new battery trays and other parts within the engine bay welded in. Pics to follow after resto by garage, They are taking pics as they get the job done. So comes with a full resto dvd!
Drivers side and the rear parts has been welded with all new replacement parts, bottom 12 inches, arches, Cab floor, b posts , under the windows, and engine bay done, just the same on passenger side with all sills and sliding door sills and repair Panel and the front Panel to do now :) PROGRESS! Going to be a totally new van brand new Doors, completly brand new parts all sourced from schofields and the best correct fit from C&C to get the best ones! Spending 1000s on this van for it to be perfect, So all the stress of this year will be worth it!
Plan then is to primer all over. White inside, and then decide on colour.
Getting a new beam to put it back to stock. Keeping the stock Wheels and devon roof being put back on. Hand made Interior put in with nice cupboards and finishings, 3/4 rock and roll bed with all upholstered lush green bed cusions, and door cards, get the floor laid, Mot and drive!!!! Feel like putting on a brand new 16 plate on this one!

  4. where are you getting your beam from?

  5. From another van in the garage that has red 9 design now

  6. ahh cool, i am fitting a rd9design beam ayt the moment.

does yours have a servo and how low have you set it?

i am having issues with the servo hitting the underneath of the bus where all the heater cable tubes are

  7. shes not got red9 shes having the beam from the van that has just had red9 fitted

  8. Wow budget has been blown on the bill of half the welding. Im up to nearly 9k on this with the passenger side and front needing finishing. Anyone interested in finishing this one off with all the new parts ive listed And a full upholstered interior? 7.5k? Would be ideal for a garage or someone who can weld and keep the cost down that way. i cant afford the labour and painting its such a shame we could have done the rest :(. Anyone interested call 07533966145

This is a sad tale indeed very sorry for the stage you're at but did you not have an idea of what it was going to cost before you handed it over to the pros?

  14. No because they didnt look over it properly in the beginning and we had a price agreed of for the original work and once they started they found more and more and it was only one more job at a time so thought well it will be worth it. Then got more into it and more work was needed i got the parts and then more and more it snowballed once work was started and i had the parts and now its just too much for me. If i get it sorted with help i cant afford the Paint and finish it. I have no where to keep it to protect it. I jist want to cut my losses and lose as little as poss. I was trying to be positve but then got more phone calls to say its even worse and more is needed. I cant afford the labour. Im not stupid i wouldnt have done it if i knew it would have been like this but we were in too deep before we knew. I cant weld neither can my dad. The labour is a killer. It would be great for someone who can weld. All the parts are there its just a puzzle for someone who can put it together cheaply

Ahh no, feel really sorry for you. :(
Hope you sell it ok. After you've got your house sorted you'll be able to buy your next van and you'll be much better informed about what your buying so you can get a much better one to start with.

will be interesting to see the work they have done for what they charged ... I would have imagined that any experienced restorer of VW rust heaps would have been able to tell you off bat what was needed on a van like yours and provide a reasonable accurate estimate.. Now your gonna try to recoupe your spend by looking for 7500 for a part welded bus.. :( its not gonna be an easy sell :( labour cost is a dead loss, on an unfinished van .. Kinda goes back to posts a while back where folks asked what it would cost to restore a van... It was estimated that £30k would not be out of the way if it was being done "professionally" with a bill around half that if you could do all the work your self.. Im into 12k on mine with zero labour .. The best thing to do is find a free place to stash the van and go back to it with a view to completion at a later time. The next one you buy to replace this one will be a repeat process, most likely be a bodged up heap prettied up to sell at top money.. Take a breather save some more cash and bite the bullet, you reached a stage where youll loose a pile if you try to sell it part done, and youll loose a pile when its complete, the toss up is whats the smallest loss? A part welded van is a big project and so project money, despite what you have spent on it .. Its probably only worth a few grand definately a whole lot less than you have in it and a lot less than the 7500 you would like... more like £3k or 4k for someone who really wants to get there feet wet... :(

Oh they can. But if they said it'll cost £12K to weld and £4k to paint, then engine, rolling gear, interior, pop-top... they'd have no work would they? You'd probably not be surprised how many resto's get sold either along the way or when finished to pay the resto bills. I would tell my customers above prices, then suggest they'd get £4K for their's as is making £2ok, engine £2K, rolling gear and stuff £1k, interior £3k - £26K. Surely better to buy one for less than that and go camping tomorrow.

  18. Good luck with the sale ,times have changed and it harder to hang on to a such valuble asset ,in the day you just could forget about it...:hattip:

It wouldn't surprise me, I rescued someone like that. £8.5K for £2.5K work if it had been done well, which it hadn't.
