Thought i'd better check my timing as the engine has recently been re built and set up by the garage.
The problem is i can't set the max advance to 28 deg btdc, ( 3000 rpm, vac off and blocked) if i do engine not happy , intermittent spluttering on tick over, its ok when set at idle at 7.5 deg btdc but then the max advance is only 20 deg btdc. Carb checked etc. Would appreciate your thoughts on this.

Just had mine played with to improve running....he ended up settling static nearer 11' to get proper advance at high revs. I too run a Petronix.
Don't know if that is any help.

That sounds about right, unlike mine :(

  4. Is your whole distributor made by Pertronix? Sounds like the mech advance isn’t working properly.

Yeah, it'the full pertronix dizzy. Just removed cover and wheel clamp to take it for a spin and see how it runs.

  6. That may be your problem...

Mine's a refurbished Bosch with a Petronix 1 ( just in case your question was directed at me.)

  8. No, was asking @redgaz . Setting max advance usually ends up with idle advance at about 10*, which is fine.

Just lubed dizzy, checked rotor arm pivots, went for a blast and re-set timing using my old basic gunsons strobe, seems fine now !?, Petronix dizzy appear to be inconsistent or maybe sticking sometimes. Anyone godda Bosch one for sale ?.

  11. If it has got mechanical advance, possible it is sticking. Give it a cleanout inside - easy enough

    Your right, will do.

  13. Take the baseplate off and have a looky. Should be able to clean any muck/swarf off of the advance mech below, check springs etc
