Pertronix ignitor kit 1 or 2 does it work with a 009 (after market) dizzy

  1. Hi has anybody fitted one of these electronic points kits to a after market 009 dizzy.

I'm thinking of going electronic ! but as i noted on the JK website this:-

"note this can only be fitted to genuine Bosch 009 Distributors that have either been manufactured in Germany or Brazil without a vacuum advance mechanisms."

    Is this really true ?

Anybody got a opinon on this ?

    cheers

It may be down to the position of the fixing holes in the base plate of the electronic module not lining up with thebdistributor plate. I think my Pertronix always sat at a slight angle because of a fixing pip on tbe base plate being in the way.

Mind you , as the overpriced Pertronix comes with some American fixing screw based on the number of threads in the thickness of a slice of apple pie pastry or some such , that is not quite a metric size but close you could say none of them fit without a bodge.

  4. You mean the Unified thread, as used by the British well into the 80s ;)?

  5. may be worth you looking on thesamba.com forums. try doing a search in the beetle and bay sections. they are very technical on there.

  6. Why anyone would want to run a 009 is beyond me ......

  8. Buy a lovely Chinese svda accuspark dizzy with there module already fitted , swap to new dizzy , time it up , hook vac line up and away you go job done and half the price . It may last you 10 months or 10 years .I myself never had a problem with them and they work well . Petronix are "supposidly" better? But the cost dosnt seem justified in my opinion and I've know people over the years who have had horrendous problems with them likewise people who swear by them. As with all parts unless you have an unlimited budget for everything you pay your £££ and hope for the best
Either way loose the 009 and keep it behind your seat for if and when your petronix or accuspark decides it's had enough lol.

  10. Engineers in U.K. went metric in late 60s only the Good old US of A still use UNC and UNF threads for hardware

  11. Older Fords were still Unified well into the 70s, likely Vauxhall as well, with their US roots. I believe some BL cars were still using Whitworth fasteners into the 80s.
