  1. I’ve adjusted the steering box and fitted a genuine vw steering coupling.

i bought one that was advertised as "nos" but didn't have a vw logo like yours..?

people have become generous with the phrase NOS as it adds value, bit like westfalia

  4. I bought it ages ago after lots of searching and waiting.
You’ve more chance of being struck by lightning than finding one now.

There are ones available now that are made by the same company that made them for vw
So they should be the same just without the vw logo.

For a while all that was available were terrible quality reproductions that weren’t fit for purpose hence me searching for an original .

  5. Box is on the van[IMG]

I recall the steering box takes 80/90 gl4 gear oil
I’ve this on the shelf I bought for my daily
I take it it’s ok to use?

I should have filled it before I fitted it really to make things easier

What type of fasteners have people used for the cover at the bottom of the steering column?
I’ve had to use bolts and a stack of washers for the time being.

  9. Did they have a special sized washer underneath?

  10. I'll take one out in a bit

  11. Cheers Matt I appreciate you taking the time to do that.
Are the heads on those larger in diameter than the head of a bolt then?

  13. Does your cover plate have slots like this?

  14. It's just a cover nothing structural. It has slots so you can adjust it to sit correctly

  15. Today’s efforts were correcting my mistake of what I thought was fitting the rear brake spreader plates on the wrong sides of the van.
However one side was correct and the other side I’d somehow managed to fit upside down.

    From this [IMG]

    To this
    [IMG]

    I’d previously fitted new cylinders
The van hasent moved since I fitted them
Yet the rubber dust seals have split
I’m sick to death of Marmitee rubber components
    [IMG]
Thankfully I’d kept the old cylinders so swapped the rubbers over from them
    [IMG]

My steering box is also leaking from the adjustment screw
So I need to figure out a way to stop that now!

  16. I’ve used some hylomar blue non setting sealant on the adjuster screw

  17. The steering box isn’t leaking anymore since the hylomar

Brake fluid reservoir fitted and piped in
Brake lines made and connected and flexy hoses fitted awaiting callipers
