looks more like wood chip than stonechip.... sorry, just messing In all seriousness, it seems like you've applied some coats over the last few days... could you leave it for a week or longer and see if it will flat out once it's had some time to harden more?
I now know how sickening paint can be to deal with so I share your pain. You mentioned earlier that spraying could be an option you just don’t want to upset your neighbours. In my case I’ve put my compressor in the house (after a good clean) and fed the air line through the letterbox to the van on the drive. It looks stupid but it dulls the noise right down. I know that’s not your plan but could be a failsafe option if all else fails. I’m also guessing the texture from spraying would match your engine lid a bit closer than the roller is doing now. That said, personally i think it looks fine from those photos. You can’t deny it’s protected and for the purpose of getting out there and enjoying it, this should be more than good enough. The first coat I left for a week and it didn’t change at all and I have been flatting it back in between.
I love your work around of putting the compressor in the house. When restoring a vehicle on the drive it’s amazing how resourceful you become
Well this morning I’ve finally cracked it and managed an even texture across the whole panel It’s still wet and flashing off in the pics but I’m very happy with it now It’s perfect for the off road utilitarian look I’m after for the van It’s like a toned down version of upol raptor which I did contemplate doing the whole van in at one point.
All those years of flatting 0range peel back in celly paint then polishing it and now I’ve painted something where I’m happy with the 0range peel effect lol
Brilliant! I bet you're well chuffed with that. In comparison, my attempt at lacquer with a spraygun has covered every surface of mine in embalmed flies. Glad you finally got it to work!. out of interest, do you know what you did differently to finally get it to work? Was it the thinners, roller, or just a combination of everything?
Yeah I’m proper chuffed with it Thinning it right down and finding the best roller for the job along with getting the right rolling technique. It just took some trial and error as it’s not a paint I’ve used before. Now I’ve got it nailed down the rest of the van should be a lot easier.
Busy with other stuff at the moment owen. Dug out the cracked filler on the rear corner and cleaned it up and treated it so it doesn’t get worse over the winter. The weathers not going to be good enough to be sorting full panels So I’ll be picking at scabs and treating them then I’ll come back to them in late spring. Over winter I’ll carry on with the underside mechanicals and try to get my engine built.
Few more bits to clean up and treat Thankfully it appears to be surface corrosion and not full on rot.
Front panel has also cracked so will need digging out Thankfully the other side of the van doesn’t seem as bad
