I’m in the same situation @paradox certainly with the one at the tank end. I’m expecting bad news from the filler elbow too though. Schofields are supposed to sell a good one for the tank end.
This paint is awful to work with It won’t dry sand either by hand or with the da I wet sanded the panel all right back And gave it a coat It won’t flow out properly the brush parts won’t blend with the rollered parts It’s melting the rollers It’s reacting in places It’s just *****ing awful I don’t know what to do now I’m loosing the will to live
Those nails could do with some attention too! It is shocking.... I've got one in the van somewhere that hasn't been fitted. I'm guessing that might be perished before fitting!
Given your patience, would it be worth investing in a cheaper compressor and gun and a cheap gazeebo?
Iv never used that paint, so can't offer help with that, but, is it that important in the grand scheme of things? It's not going to effect camping enjoyment at the end of the day, and I'm sure it will look fine from 20 foot. I do get that it must be frustrating though. My first bus got painted with emulsion in my dinner break one sunny day in 92... complete with fly's and dust etc it still gave us plenty of fond memories.
I agree the quality is very poor ... I wonder how old this is ... makes us all wonder what the ones in our buses must be like? and with the engine in its not an easy job to check.
It’s got a rubbery feeling to it when dried a bit like the underseal used on modern cars I’m guessing it may be polyurethane based paint I don’t mind the texture so much but it won’t flow and blend so it’s leaving roller and brush lines and not going on even I’ve just slapped another coat right over the top of it so at least it’s protected There’s no way I can flat all that back and start again before the weather turns.
I’ve got a compressor and gun I was just trying to keep things simple and not annoy the neighbors and village
The only way we'll get suppliers to 'own' their dangerous and not fit for purpose parts (whilst spouting crap about if they don't, they loose trade) is to report them.
Just to see what happens I might give it another coat with this type of roller sleeve It’s the type of roller I used when I did the cab floor and arch tubs in a polyurethane coating with little rubber granular in it. If it will give me an even texture across the panel then I’ll carry on with this paint. If it won’t then I’ll leave it till next year and strip it all back off and use an enamel paint instead. Feels like one step forward a hundred steps back at the moment
