when i had a play with celly and flatted it back, i found about 4-5 coats to be enough, obvioulsly the more there is, the more you'll have to play with and make it perfect!

i put on a couple of coats then flatted that back, then another and flatted it and so on until i was happy!

trouble is, every coat you put on will deepen the orange peel effect, if you flat it between layers you will get a better finish! especially being like me an inexperienced sprayer the standard of finish isnt going to be amazing so you'll have more sanding to do anyway!

  9. I'm only going to flat mine once. If it has a peel effect to it I don't care, it's not a show or shine bus.

  10. I found that with if you flat back lightly between coats, you dont get too much orange peel, also if you flat it back with really really wet n dry after the top coat and then dont over polish it, 2 pac looks a little like celly :)

  11. If the first coats dried off before your ready to apply the second coat then you are best to key the paint again

  13. Alls good there then

The thicker the paint (more coats), the easier it chips. 2-pac is thick paint. One tac coat then one full coat should cover it.
If you want it perfect, yes flat the whole bus paint and repeat until you're fed up. :)

I honestly would advise you don't flat out all the orange peel unless you have arrow straight panels - if you make them mirror smooth, you'll make it look more rippley. Take a look at modern cars - most have slight orange peel - it looks good.)

when painting gusbus, we did the following
4 decent coats of etch primer
flat back with fine wet n dry then
4 more good coats of high build primer
    flat back again
finally three good coats of colour followed by a top coat (more) thinners than colour (not sure of the ratio though)

I'd say they where all light coats, not thick ones! Im far from any good at spraying, its been a good few years since I last sprayed anything (1994 ish)

  18. Ive never flatted etch primer in my life

If you need to flat it you have put it on too thick

Quick dusting then the high build primer
