  3. That would work as it would look like it was done back in the day rather than a pro best attempt at matching it in

Sounds like a maybe for me - you never know :) ......

Back to the heater - can't rush these things - one step at a time - it's an advantage of doing a project in your spare time - loads of planning time. ::)
When I changed the broken silencer for the 4:1 exhaust I had a couple of bits left over from the warm air ducts so I made this...

...fitted it here... You couldn't do this so easily/neatly in a late bay - there is an extra bulkhead to get through (I think) and the strengthening pressings in the bulkhead are closer together. Just saying...

...and connected it to the heater. One for hot air and one for re-heating the air from the cabin.

A bit of a squeeze, but being so high up I think I'll need the duct to hug the wall, hence the angles on the tubes through the plate - that and the wheel arch is still rising engine side of the bulkhead and the bulkhead is sloped. It all just fits. I love it when a plan comes together without too many hiccups.

    More heating... nearly there...

I thought I should have a clean up and paint a few things so I could install the heater permanently.

And I remembered the fuse so fitted that, as well as the wiring for the reverse light. Look Malc - no welding - just wiping with a cloth. ;)

I need a second battery which is why I cut the wheel well out, so I made a battery hold-down from bus bits - a few bits of bent steel, an engine lid hinge, a T4 air filter/carb spring clip and same engine oil bath filter hold-down clip. I was bored!
I'll take it back out and tart it up now that I know it works mechanically. The carb spring and hold-down clip work a treat.

Painted bits with a random mixed up can that said "red" on it. Just enough for these bits and it ran out. VW's attitude seems to have been "if you can't see it don't waste paint on it.

Wish I was getting somewhere with this. But I'm not really. :(
Gathering a few interior parts and researching costs of upholstery hides, oak panelling, parque flooring, and art deco lighting - as you do for a camper. I may need to try and comission Hellraiser for the headlining. God I love his....
