I have just got an old eberspacher heater going, and have been trying to find a place for it in the van, its a bit big for the engine bay so was going to fit it under the r and r bed inside, any thoughts on this good or bad.
I think its a bn4, but its in the workshop so can't check now, big orange thing 3" inlet, 4" outlet, was going to stick it under the bed and recirculate the air from inside the van with a thermostat inside to control the temp, make sure i don't get to hot this winter and pipe the petrol supply straight off the fuel pipe under the van.
Depends how much space you want to loose. The bn4 is huge in comparison to even 1980's models. The B1L I have is only the size of a large thermos flask and fits neatly under the side seat in my westy.
My BN4 is in the engine compartment. There's a ducting kit to take the hot air through the fuel tank compartment to the inside.
Mines big, but only cost me £20 so I'm not complaining, i haven't got the on/off switch or thermostat, but was going to use a standard room stat. I have twin carbs so space is restricted, and i want to locate a battery on the left as well. Just going to drill three holes in the floor for exhaust, air and petrol. How well do they work?
just read up in the eberspacher manuel that the unit is designed in such away that even if there is a leak exhaust fumes can not enter the air system, to do with different pressures within each system. I have had it running and everything seems ok, when its fitted i will test for Co/ Co2, and we already have a Co detector.
Where have you positioned your intake and outlet? hot air side and what have you used to duct it? Mine is now fitted under the bed with exhaust and air piped through the floor, i was going to leave the inlet open in the cupboard then try and pipe the outlet around to the front of the van Sorry just reread your post and see yours is in the engine bay. Anyone with the heater under the bed that can advise?
B4L is a same as unit fitted to some Land Rovers. My mate had one in his 101 and it was toasty even with the canvas roof. Its a 4kw heater.
