oil seals ???

Hi, I have been stripping the tins off of my engine today, I had to tip it up on the crank shaft pulley end to get underneath I hadn't drained the oil and it started coming out from the crank shaft.

I had the pulley off.

Is this normal? is there an oil seal at this end?

there is a seal but it seals to the outside of the front pulley nose so if you pull the pulley theres a 5mm gap between crank and oil seal allway round

If it's a type 1 engine, there is no oil seal at the pulley end.
