Oil leaks

  1. I have various oil leaks and although I don't expect to stop them all I'd like to stop some of them. So I've steam cleaned Cyril's T4 2 lit engine to try and get to the bottom of the issue....

Number one is at the bottom of the oil filter pipe (I think) see pic, it looks like it's had a braze repair but I may be wrong. Any ideas where the oil may be coming from as both the pipe and seal look wet?

  5. Yepp thats a dipstick boot! good luck in changing it out,can be a bit fiddly!
When i bought mine it had a few leaks on it,ive got it down now to a penny size patch overnight!
I will soon get rid of that one! if i can find it?

    all fun and games buddy!

VW's came with leaks ast standard not optional extra's.
the more it leaks, the more fresh oil it gets!

  6. Do you have to remove the rear Tin to replace it?

  8. Just fixed a few leaks on mine a month or two ago - did pushrod seals, rocker gaskets and tightened the oil pressure switch, got it down to hardly anything at all.

You've either got a very little van or a very big oven tray.:)

  13. the tray is the width of an oven, so bigger than a normal baking tray. It seems to catch most of the drips, the amount i've spent on engines i shouldn't have any drips!

  14. Im getting @Joker to put mine together next time as he reckons his dont leak. Ive had a type 4 engined bus for getting on for 27ish years now and never had one not leak for any significant period in that time!

  15. Same same but different, 18 years of ownership type one engines - all have leaked. Joker is going to be a busy man!
