  4. Bit of a way for me im in warrington cheshire! Sure someone will be along shortly who can have a look though good luck

  5. Are your lower tins missing or were they removed to investigate the oil leak?

  6. Their used to be someone on here name @Russbmx , he had a lovely twinsider which he restored , he lived in Eastbourne and had his ear close to the ground on the vw circuit in Eastbourne , if you could trace him he would prob know someone gd . Can you name the chap who is going to look at it ?

  7. Lower tins? I didn't remove anything.

Edit : indeed looks like they're not present after doing some quick research. Looks like that chap who "reconditioned" this engine has actually missed alot of stuff. He's got his money now though so I doubt he'll care :(

  8. OK I drove it back from work and checked the engine bay again, was a spot or two of oil but nothing major at all, I did however check under the undercarriage and found more oil though, is this be considered normal? Or is there definitely a leak?

If you can’t find someone closer I can recommend Ant at Kustom Revival 30 miles away Just north of Shoreham.
You can always call him up first for a chat. Trustworthy and very knowledgable.

  10. Looking at this video, there may be a slight leak at the join between the two halves of the case - it looks like there's some sealant on it. This doesn't seem to be as bad as the oil on the heat exchanger though. The usual suspects are the rocker cover cork gasket and push rod tube seals.

PS did you remember to buy the flowers and the tripe?;)

  11. I'll see what the mechanic thinks on Tuesday, and yes I didn't forget! Both misses and dog were happy; tripe for her, flowers for him! :p

Probably a good idea not to drive the bus anywhere but if you do make sure you have a big fire extinguisher with you. It’s a fire waiting for an inconvenient place to occur and if it doesn’t catch fire the engine will overheat.

It’s a T25 engine with the wrong oil filter and it looks like someone was half way through fitting the engine when you bought it. It has a broken or missing exhaust flange stud on no.3-cylinder, missing lower tins, missing engine bay seal, missing fresh air feed hoses and pipes to the heat exchangers, missing alternator adjuster seal and an oil leak around the heat exchanger that may be push rod seals or rocker cover – that’s just the obvious stuff.

What’s that mystery hose connected to?
