  1. Dropped spark plug under tin wear type 4 engine.
Banged my head pulled my back
Took the skin off my hand.
    Getting wet from the rain

Another eventful morning working on the van.

Walked away for the mo before the hammer comes out to smash it up.

  2. Leave it till the next time you have the engine out...

Think I made the right choice. Had too much fruit, then too much rye last night. Got up early to pick up alternator from Schofield then spent the rest of the day thinking about fitting it tmoro

  5. Can the tin over 3 n 4 be removed or is it a big one?

Have you got a magnet on a stick, there's not that much room for it to have gone far?

It’s a big one, leave the spark plug, will be fine, have you got a magnet and a bit of spring

    Leave it where it is.
At least you'll have a spare one when needed on the side of the road!;)

  9. When you have retrieved plug (some cheap telescopic rods with a magnet and light on the end, £2.50 in those bargain shops) buy a new plug socket and find a length of tube that will fit tight over a spark plug, this will help locating the plug whole and stop cross threading when fitting, tighten with plug socket. A garden stick and a strong magnet taped tight to the end could also help to find the dropped plug.

  10. I tried last week to get the big tins off without pulling the engine. Failed, though don't understand why it wouldn't come off. In the end I'd pulled so much off I dropped the engine anyway.
I reckon you could get it loose enough to find a lost spark plug though.

  11. Got a magnet but it’s tooo strong and keeps snapping to everything else. One of those neodymium ones.

Keep trying , it’s like fishing, the spark plug won’t do any harm down there

i found that using an aldi (wot you want one of those for?) inspection cameras , a weak magnet to just move in position and 2 attempts with long nose pliers it worked a treat

There is also an endoscope attachment for modern phones so you can shove it down in there and see it all on your phone screen. They start at £3.95 delivered, some have a magnetic end as well.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,, I keep meaning to get :):)

I’ve had a couple of ops on these myself and it maybe one of the least pleasant things that’s happened to me. A date with the rubber band man ain’t good. For those among you that haven’t had the pleasure of this little interlude, it goes like this.

I’m guessing there was some form of anaesthesia but I can’t remember it, I just remember the pain. It’s a bit like one of those claws that you see on the pier but a smaller version and for all intents and purposes it’s attached to a ray gun that is shoved very delicately up where the sun don’t shine. They grab your grapes with this clawed device and squeeze and tug, squeeze and tug, until they have as many loose farmers as they can grab. The bit I delightfully missed out on is the fact that the ray gun thingy is equipped with tightly bound rubber bands:eek:. This is where they flick these straining lacky bands onto your struggling and squeezed and tugged hemi’s and then the pain hits you, then they have a couple more party tugs just to round up any strays. Now the pain is multiplying and you are helpless to stop it. Imagine someone is pinching and squeezing your inner upper arm but there are three or more all doing it at the same time o_O:confused::eek:. At least with your arm , you can give it a little consoling rub to make it betterer but you can’t even do that to your innerds that are being strangled enough to stop the blood supply which is how they work. The pain gradually dissipates over three days to a week and after about a week it’s just like a dull horse whipping painwise

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,, apparently the new laser is also a bag of laughs :):eek::)
