Has anyone seen these? Any thoughts? I do like some of them, the Rachel Whitread one and the Bob and Roberta Smith one for example....

What amuses me is the way some of this stuff is written about, Jonathan Jones, writing in yesterdays Guardian, in a section titled Expert View: Sporting Contest Brings The Best Out Of BritArt (thats right, he's the "expert", he knows about this stuff, we mere mortals should take heed, This is the "Best" of brit art). When he's talking about the Howard Hodgkin one, he says,
"...to see Howard Hodgkin, grand old man of sensuous painters, reach into the deep blue to create a metamorphosis of athlete and water, the diver and the pool, is beautiful. This is more poetry than mere poster."

More poetry than mere poster, so know you know....

  2. I think they are pretty awful Mr Tatty with the exception of the Anthea Hamilton one , the hodgkin poster looks like one of those done by an elephant holding a paintbrush and as for that Emin one , whats that all about?? Back in the day there used to be dedicated artists for this sort of stuff and they could get the message across, just look at old british rail, seaside, exhibitions type posters and see what i mean. Im not saying these new "artists" are talentless but this should be for the masses not the few that they seem to be catering for.In the words of Mr Billy Childish "is it art or is it arse" a song written with Tracy Emin in mind by the way.

I think some of it is arse. I don't know how much they were paid for doing the posters, Emin looks like she knocked hers off on a spare 5 minutes at the end of the day. TBH I like going to see modern art, Mrs JT hates most of it, but it does amuse me to see some of the pretentious eartha kitt written on the infromation panels next to the exhibits.

I'm not a diver but l am sure that if you dived as Anthea Hamilton depicts in her picture it wouldn't help you. Some of those look like cheap prints you can find in Ikea. l do however like Rachel Whiteread's.
